Finally making some progress on this so I thought I would start a thread. It is going to be a 40x40x14. It will have two 12x12 doors on the front and one 8x8 in the rear (just for air flow) Got the dirt work done a few months ago and I pulled the trigger on the shop yesterday. There were actually 5 people in front of me but they are all waiting to get dirt work done. Since my pad was ready I got moved to the front of the line. They came out and set the forms today. We also ruffed in my plumbing and water.

Should pour cement on Monday. Then they should be starting on the shop in about 3 weeks.

That should be a nice size, what are you doing in it, cars, wood working? Looks like a nice neighborhood, do you have to match the house?

I will be working on my project truck and such.

We are actually in a rural area, so no size restrictions, permits, or anything. One of the major things I made sure of when we moved in.

Nice place. Do you still have the swb or another project? Who is building your shop? I hope to add to my current shop at some point since I'm running out of room. Good luck with it.

Barker Steel Building is doing it.

I still have a SWB I am working on. Currently putting trailing arms on it and bags all the way around.

Looks like they are going to start construction tomorrow. Slab has been sitting for a month now. Came home from work today and they had staged all their equipment and the building so looks like progress will be made.

Wind laid down enough today to get started. If they keep moving like this I figure it will be done in 3-4 more days.

It is just primered red steel. They got a lot done today. I will get pics tomorrow. I walked out and looked at it in the dark and it is so tall. Looks really crazy tall in the dark. Kindof out of place in my neighborhood but I am sure I will get use to it. Several 12' sidewalls in the neighborhood but the extra 2' really makes a difference.

Took 4-5 guys 3 days to get it up. Garage door guy will be here tomorrow to get the 12' doors hung. The 8' roll up in the rear is just not going to work for me. The builder has agreed to swap it out for a insulated regular garage door for just the difference. Other then that I love it. Can't wait to get the power all done and get started moving my tools and projects into it.

Looks good! Would like to see some pics when you get stuff in there. I'm looking at that size also and not sure how well everything will fit.

It is going to be great for my needs. Going to take me a bit to get to move forward on it. I am going to have to recoupe some money! Next will be framing in walls on the inside and hanging OSB all the way around. I'm not sure what the best way to go about doing that is. I am assuming just frame up 2x4 stud walls on 16" centers between the upright posts and then screw OSB to them?

Nice build.

I'm not to far from OKC. Can you tell me what they charged for building. I Have my site work done. Electric and water is run. Just need to make a few anchors to go in my slab.

And am still debating on whether to stick build it my self or go with a builder. Then the choice is steel or pole building. Cost is always a issue of course.

If you don't feel comfortable posting that info here. How about a PM?

Been trying to do a little at a time as I get the money. I got all plywood walls up and got my storage loft/bathroom almost complete. Also got lighting finished.

No turning back in the painting now. This is 1 coat if Kiltz primer. I am going to topcoat this with 1 coat of a light grey. Hopefully it will cover well.

Curious, what did you not like about the 8x8 door?

I am doing a 40x40x10 and I believe they are sending the same type doors but 2 10x8s and 1 8x8.

If I would have seen this thread I may have went the same type building rather than a pole barn. Just a floating slab?

I didn't like the roll up doors because there were huge gaps around them. They rattled really bad too. When they are down there is about a 4" gap at the top. They have a little brush type thing they can install but it doesn't keep the air out. That being said, depending on what you plan to use your shop for they may work great for you.

I dont really know what you mean by floating slab. They just dug piers every 10' around the outside edge.

Bought a couple of cheap recliners off craigslist for the TV area. Really enjoying it out there.

I'm looking at lows in the negatives the next few days. You're sitting there in a recliner watching tv with the door up.

I think I need to move. Looks like a great place, I'm definitely jealous!

Baclay same deal for me - mind PM'ing me the cost? I'm about to do a similar project in Upstate NY - just looking for a ballpark (wife pushing to redo kitchen @ same time - making sure the pennies add up).
Thanks!
