Hey Guys, Im in the process of planning my new home and shop
build. This is the plan for the shop. the detail on the floor plan
in the bottom left is my lounge area under the mezz.
I plan on the 2 post lift show, and then adding a 4 post later if needed.
What do you guys think of the layout. Do you see anything that would
be a problem, or that you feel would work better.
this is just a hobby shop (of my dreams). Im in a 3 car garage now bursing at the seams !. The bach of the shop oposite of the overhead doors faces west.
this is a steel building, the exterior is designed to compliment the house.

Seems good, lots of space inside there :). Whats going on for heating and cooling?

Your breaker panel is pretty close to your welders, but if you can get it closer you can save on wire. For example, a Syncrowave 250 is somewhere around a 90-100A draw on 240vac single phase. #2 AWG which is not cheap! Talking Miller here, a 251/252 Mig machine is around 50-60A draw, could probably be on the same circuit if not used at the same time...

Thanks I'll look at the panel location ,
As far as heating, I'm going radiant in slab
And cooling will be just ceiling fans.

If it were me I'd have the playroom upstairs and the work area down. I also see a lathe in there. Lathes and mills are precision tools that do not do well around welding and grinding. If you plan on machining in there then move the playroom back to the house and put the machine shop under the second floor. That is what I did.

I realize as a young man you want a shop that can do it all. I'd suggest that you limit it to three things. What are your top three goals for the area? Put those in your mind and then lay out so you have efficient work flow for those three tasks. Be real here with what you really already do. Forget the dream projects and things for a bit Make sure that you have everything from the old place accounted for in this building.

Good luck

Thanks for the input.
My lathe is a small unit and is on a cabinet with wheels.
And I'll have a cover for it, as it will not be used much.
The upper area is for storage.
The rec room will be staying there. It's more of a lounge for me.
And there will be no room for it in the house for this. It's going to be a ranch
With a crawl space.
But yes , I'll be doing wood work/ metal Fab / and general repair /
And a area in the corner where I'll put together a small paint booth with retractable
Walls.
