I only found this site a week ago and must say it's GREAT! Super people and info. I thought I'd share some pictures of my new garage addition that I have been building for the past year along with a major remodel of the house. I have built everything to withstand 140+ MPH wind loads that we seem to get all to often here in Florida! the 18' X 8' large door is the stongest there is and weighs well over 600lbs.

I still have a lot of finish, detail and orgiization to do but I am proud of how far it's come.

Mike

Very nice looking place!

Looks like there was a storm blowing in while you took those pics too. Did your house & garage do well during this latest hurricane?

Nice to see an "upper scale" garage that's actually got TOOLS in it!

Now, what exactly do you own that would need to be worked on? Those two vehicles don't exactly look like "projects"

Looks very nice!

My wife's 82 Mecedes 380SL with 260k miles always needs attention to keep it in top shape. She had it out today when I took the pictures so I will post some soon to show you where I am with it.

The weather here today looked threatening but was no big deal. We had 105MPH winds 2 weeks ago as the Hkane came through but no damage thank God. Thanks for asking, I think we have seen the last until next year and that is OK with me.

That appears to be -- but isn't quite -- a cobblestone drive. That must have cost an arm and a leg to put in.

If it isn't too personal of a question:
-- did ya do it yourself? cost of materials and time for the effort
-- did ya have it done? same questions

Very very nice

Craig,

The driveway is made out of cement interlocking pavers. They are 2 3/8" thick and are layed into a bed of 8" of compacted crushed concrete. They are available in all sorts of shapes and colors. Normaly they use only 3" to 4" of base but I speced 8", the same that is used on roads when pavers are used so I could drive heavy trucks on it with no problems. Cement prices have gone up drasticly over the last two years because of demand and when I priced doing poured concrete verses pavers the price spread was only 10 cents a square foot! The driveway is 3700 square feet and I payed $3.45 a square foot for the materials and installation. By the way it took a crew of 8 spanish speaking laborers only a day and a half from start to finish. Another neat feature is that they can be pryed up to run a pipe/conduit under them (don't ask me how I know!) and layed back in! Ann and I are really happy with how nice they look and how the driveway ties the house together. Thanks for the compliments and I hope this helps.

Here is a lick to get some more info on them: http://www.concretenetwork.com/concrete/pavers/

One caution though. My brother lives in Annapolis MD and was quoted over $12.00 a square foot to do exactly the same thing! Shop around and I hope the market/supply and demand in your area keeps them in line with poured concrete as it is here in Florida. :bounce:

I live right down the street from you (actually across the "river") in Melbourne. I'll keep an eye out for you and say hi! Not too many red NSX's in town.

i'm jealous...awesome garage. Love the extra height.
Don't see to many attatched garages like that in Florida.

Thanks for the complement! It has been my dream for many years and now it's real. I did the addition with 12 foot ceilings. I plan on adding a four post lift in the second tall bay to store more toys and ran the 30 amp 220V line while the walls were open so it's ready to go as soon as my wife gets over what I have done so far:thumbup:
