My new build in Collage Station, TX. (updated 07/30/2020)

This was suppose to be a project three years from now but with builder incentives and learning that home loans are going to be tougher to get in 2014 I figured now was the time to build. We own the property out right so that made it a lot easier.

This is a corner shot taken last spring, nice and green

This shows just how over grown the vegetation was.

View media item 105775

This build will be 2550 sq. ft. 4 BR, 2-1/2 bath, and 3-1/2 car garage. The garage has two 10' wide doors spaced 7' apart.

View media item 105776
Here is a shot from the back yard, with an extra slab for my 29' deep x 44' wide work shop.

View media item 105777
It's 1,276 sq. ft. It should be big enough for now.

View media item 105779
Finally I'll have some elbow room to work on more than one Z at a time. It will have one 18' wide door, a wash sink, and toilet. No more running into the house.

View media item 105778

I think I might be happy with this build, at least for a little while.

Where in College Station are you building? My parents live in Pebble Creek. I would love to come out and see it when it is done. You can come over next time I am in town and see my collection of cars.

Pebble Creek? We drive right by it on the way. We'll be in King Oaks, off county road 175.

Collection of cars, I used to have a collection, but down to one right now....93' 300ZX

I wish...HOA will not allow it, believe me I tried.

To everyone else...Thanks...and will post more pics as the build progress.

Nice lay out of the garage and the house. Looks like your wife is walking out the shop and getting ideas where she can put her garden stuff. Nip it in the bud and kick her out of there. Congrats on the new house!

Update 02-24-2013

Well thieves wanted the copper wire out of the temporary electric pole then they saw that it was aluminum and and just left me with cut wires, now I will have to pay another inspection fee.

Already? Looks like you still have a helluva way to go. I hope the rest of the project goes smoothly for you. I've enjoyed your thread thus far.

Too bad they didn't get electrocuted when they messed with your temporary power. That's the problem with all these codes, they protect the bad guys too!

What was your budget for this build?

I tried to build on some property I own and the costs were just nutso, although you don't a basement like we have to have here......still, the costs made it unworkable for me, and I was just building a modest two bedroon ranch on a basement - I did have 2 - two car garages, but still............cost was just crazy.

Congrats on the new shop, I am definitely jealous......

Update 07-29-2013

Everything on the inside is pretty much finished, just waiting on the quote for the driveway and side walk concrete work. So hopefully we should be all moved in, in a month.

Here is my used to be 4 car garage which is now 3-1/2 after the wife expanded the wash/mud room into the garage...small price for what I really got in the end...

This is what I got in the deal, my man/shop/cave it's 40' long x 29' deep. Outside is done.

The sheet rock I'm going to finish out myself, but very happy with the build.

Still more pics to come when more is finished.

Wow, very jelly of your space. Can't wait to see it all set-up inside.
First I want to put an epoxy coating on the floor. It will be a couple of months before I get everything set up...and there will be pics.

Thanks for the update. I wondered what happened after the theft of the copper and the electrical problems. Gig'em
There was a little set back in the build, but all is just about finished, and yeah I can't wait to change my location in my profile.

HOA all up in your business?? What, looks like you are in a pretty secluded area. I thought the HOA nazis were only found in "so close to your neighbor, if you fart he can feel the heat" subdivisions.

HOA? Yeah we have one. But not to bad for now, we are 10 miles form the nearest city. With the lots being an acre+ we wouldn't have neighbors that close.

Got news today, the contractor is going to cut ground for the driveway and side walk this week and should have concrete next week...yea....

Update; 08-04-2013

I now have concrete forms, so should have concrete next week.

This is the view from the back yard.

View from the road.

Another view from the road.

These are the forms for the sidewalk from the front of the house to the road where the mail box will be.

Forms over the ditch.

Steps up close to the front door.

Form for the circle pad at the front porch.

Just some finished shots.

A little bit closer.

Nice looking build . . . looks like you're in home stretch now.

Curious if you've got ANY conceivable connection to the detached garage all done with underground conduit Before you concrete everything in between?? Got low voltage conduit line over there for CATV, telco, internet, security, etc?? Have buried water lines to detached garage?? Have buried natural gas line for garage heater??

Good luck with finishing it out. Keep the pics coming !!

Yes electrical is run underground already. The water comes in around the back side of the house so problem there. If you look closer, there is a 4" PVC pipe under the concrete forms for future use if needed for and connections to go under the driveway and another under the side walk in front.

Awesome, you've got it all covered, so no surprises later !!

Curious with TX heat if your garage doors are insulated and what is plan to insulate and finish out the interior of garage?? You already planning on A/C?

I plan to insulate and finish out the inside myself, A/C will be sometime later.

Corner lots have so much potential. Out garage has a 16" wide door and is technically a "2 car." But my wife pretty used about half of it for her "overflow."

Starting with 3 1/2 is smarter than you think. You would find it impossible to keep 4 bays free I think.

My shop is 30" x 40" and that is a good size. I recent air conditioned mine and it really makes a difference.

I think you are going to be a very happy camper.

More pics tomorrow, contractor said I have a driveway and sidewalk, and the propane tank is buried and fill with propane. Walk thru will be next Friday and hopefully close by the end of the month.
