My pic host has "misplaced" the build pics, but needless to say, here is the done outside and partially finished inside. I learned a lot of short cuts and planning tricks over the years(this is my 5th shop) and I hope that this can help the younger hobby builds that are sure to come 
My current shop is 28x40(down sized from a 30x50) built to match the primary residence(per zoning by-laws) and has ALL the comforts of home. Electric,(duh) water, cable, networked,(internet) and a beer tapper

The "his" part:
Since I never have enough time, I am only showing the completed(almost) sections. My welding, tapper project, air area:
My sharpening/assembly/catchall and misc. area:
The misc. area and basic tool storage:
Tool storage and loose hardware area(on the right):
My shop is basically divided into "2" areas. The area with the overhead door is the work/automotive area, with the back/unfinished portion being the fabrication/wood/metal area. It is separated by home built shelving units but also has a 12-ish foot center open "drive in" area. It leaves plenty of work/work on room(original plan):
I do work in my shop. I also have my shop detached from "her" house.(the only way to go) As I said before, this is my 5th shop, in 30 plus years of marriage. If we/you don't have it figured out by now, its not going to be.
Also,(btw) the Grizzly workshop planner will save you countless dollars and headaches when planning your shop or even your home.
