I have always heard good things about sk. When I got my new job as a trailer mechanic I talked to my dad about all the tools I was buying and he said well what about sk? So I ordered a few and at first glance they are definitely well made! Feel good in the hand and are heavy duty feeling.

This always makes me laugh.

"Just got these tools and they are well made!"

How do you know? Even use them yet? I mean really use them? One or two times doesn't define a well made tool..

And besides that typically if an item is chintzy you can tell its chintzy just by touch. Not necessarily everything but ALOT of items!

Well quite frankly its not a valid statement. People use this site for info and research. Even if they aren't members. Not saying anything bad about sk. But like I said, you can't tell if a tool is well made until You actually use It. Look at hf tools. They look and.feel ok, until you use them. Then the true colors show.

SK makes great tools man, I have all SK and Snap On sockets .I love my Sk's they're goin on about 10 years old now. I've only broke one of them and that was no fault of the tool. I lost my 5/8'' impact socket and was using a chrome SK 5/8'' as an a impact socket for a while until I replaced the lost socket. Best of luck

Hf tools look and feel ok? Obviously if you go to harbor freight and pick up alot of the toolsthey feel cheap. You cant tell me you have gone to hf and picked up a ratchet and been like "damn this thing feels solid and for only 1.99!"

I think you're right. I've picked up any number of tools and thought, seriously that thing isn't going to last 10 minutes in the shop.

The OP was just writing that his first, his initial impressions, were that the SK tools he received were well made as far as fit and finish.

I don't think we need to crucify the kid because he hasn't beat them hell and back yet.

I have 1/2 drive shallow S&K impacts metric and standard that were used professionally on cars and heavy industrial equipment since 1999 and still going strong.

Maybe his definition of "well made" is good lookin'? And what exactly do you work on that makes "hf tools" bite the dust? Have you ever used the composite ratchets? They're pretty darn good. The Pitt pro screwdrivers? Also a great tool. I don't have much HF, but what I do, it works great. Don't see why you're in here harpin about his opinion when yours isn't that great either, KWIM?

Take a walk. :p

I should have made it clearer. There's a reason there's a hf pass/fail thread. Because the price/feel ratio seems ok and well made, well at least enough to.do that job. And then they ****. I don't bash hf either. I don't have a lot, then again, the closest one isn't convenient For me. But that's not the point here.

jwych-you got some good stuff there. SK are fine tools
I cant speak for the impact sockets but I bet theylle "wear" out before they break.
and the ratchet and breaker bar will last forever if used properly.
come back here(to this thread) in a few years and let us know how they really worked out.

but stay on the forum. theres a lot of solid info here

I have my grandfather's Sherman-Klove 3/8" drive set from the late 50's or early 60's... all the sockets still fit tight.

I was actually still using it until I realized just how old it was.

I only hope that the set of S-K metric deeps that I just ordered last as long. They should be here tomorrow according to FedEx :)

I believe he clarifies his assumption with this statement in the original post.

I have some SK impact sockets (3/8 and 1/2 shallow metrics) and a ratchet or two and they should serve you well.

The one thing I don't like about my SK ratchet is the circlip. It's so difficult to get a pair of pliers in there.

I bought an SK 1/2" US set of sockets. With ratchet, extensions, and breaker bar in a metal case. Used 30 years ago. For $20.00. Quality stuff. I hope you have great luck with your purchase for the long term. Hopefully, Ideal Industries will keep improving the product line.
