So a few months ago I purchased off Craigslist a Makita beam saw with a 16" blade.
I ordered a new Diablo blade for a project I was working on and decided to keep the old blade to make a wall clock.

I ordered a battery powered clock mechanism from Amazon and did a little welding and this is what I ended up with.

I'm thinking I should paint the blade. It's hard to see the black clock hands against the dark background.

What color would look good? Bright red? Machine Gray?

They also have gold colored hands at the hobby shops for 2 or three bucks. I'll try to take a pick of the one I made out of a motorcycle sprocket and chain.

I say paint the hands like lango suggested.

If you have some white paint, just put some in a small cup or something and use a brush to put the paint on the hands.

I like the look of the rusted blade. It says I was used and help bring many projects to completion! I would keep that look and paint the hands.

Is there such a thing as a clock mechanism that isn't complete junk? I've got a garage clock given to me by my Father-in-law, made from a Chevy wheel cover.

Friggin' thing loses half-an-hour a day in the winter.

Try http://www.klockit.com/. They have reasonably priced movements in all different sizes that keep accurate time. They even have ones that sync up to the National Bureau of Standards clocks if you really want to be accurate :)
