Well, I've been lurking here for quite a while. Finally registered this month and decided to post up here today.

So, I have wanted this for a LONG time. I finally had it built late last year. They finished up right before I headed over to Japan for work. Yep, I was there for the whole earthquake / tsunami / nuclear disaster thing. Home now, for a few weeks at least, and finally have a chance to do some of the finishing touches.

I have found LOTS of great info and ideas here. Thanks to all.

General specs - 24x36 metal pole building, concrete floor, dedicated 200 amp service. I went with the Liftmaster 3800's. I opted for the ease of electric heat and threw up the Ouelett (OASU10000T). Pretty simple so far :)

The Rotary Lift (RTP-10) will be here Wednesday. Then today I pulled the trigger on the Racedeck Circletrak. Janene was a pleasure to deal with.

I was planning on just leaving the inside unfinished as it sits now, but after seeing LOTS of garages/shops on here, I'm thinking I want to finish it up. Any thoughts on adding insulation and drywalling the inside???

Without any further ado, a couple pictures:

Nice looking garage. And you're right. After getting on this site, you'll get the bug to start doing this and that to the garage. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do to the inside. If it were me, I'd insulate and drywall, others would insulate and OSB, but either way, you'll need cabinets, stereo, TV, signage, collector stuff, custom paint, epoxy floor....And the list goes on and on and on :lol_hitti

Hehe, thanks for all the welcomes and warnings.... Yeah, this site has definitely got me thinking of LOTS of things I could do.

Yes, I am a Toyota nut. That is all I allow in my garage :) Found a pic of my current collection. Well, the Camry belongs to the wife :D But this is what drove my "NEED" for a detached garage.

I love the Liftmasters so far. They definitely required some TLC to tweak everything once installed. But it's been 4 months with no issues.

Guess I need to go price some insulation today.

What year is your MR2? I like it. I think that is the one Toyota that you hardly ever see come up for sale. Most MR2 owners hang on to them. Very nice Toyota collection you have.

I did a search and it says the hardtop was rare, and available in Europe and Japan and a tad on the expensive side. It doesn't say anything about being available in the States. Was it a special order for you?

Mine is an 03 with about 50K on it. Bought it used from another Toyota nut. That is my garage queen :)

The hardtops were an option in the US, but they still had to be special ordered, so not very many were ever brought into the states. I decided I wanted one and found a guy that was importing them used from the UK. It cost me a pretty penny in shipping, but I got mine now :D

Speaking of, it's almost time to get that hardtop off. Going to an MR2 run next weekend and the weather is supposed to be decent...

That looks really great and is what I've been looking for. Can you tell me if that was a "kit" from a supplier or something a local contractor put together for you?

Thanks,

Ray

I went with a local builder. He probably has built plenty of similar buildings. It is just a basic 24X36 pole building. I just asked for 10 ft eaves and 8 ft doors so my larger rigs could fit inside.

This weekends projects

Well, I had a few things to knock out. I need to add a 220 circuit (or is it 210? :D ) for the Rotary Lift that is coming next week. About $60 for some 10-2 and the breaker.

I ordered enough insulation to do the inside. For the most part it'll be pretty easy, just slap it up there. But I have these odd areas on each end, so I brought enough home with me to try and knock them out. I'll just have to piece it together the best I can.

If you dont mind me asking what does it cost to get a hoist like this, also did you install it or was it done by a company?

I had read another post on here where the guy had used http://www.nwsalesgroup.com/ so I checked them out and ended up just having them deliver and install the lift. They did a great job and went over all the operations and maintenance items with me.

Was hoping to find a decent used one, but timing is everything and it wasn't in my cards.

It was a tad over $3k installed. At this point I couldn't be happier. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a car up on there for some test runs.

Seabeck? Cool. I grew up in Silverdale, lived on Newberry Hill.

I see your door are very near the corner posts. How close are they? Did the doors mount directly to the posts or is there a second post for those doors.

I'm trying to fit lotsa door onto a small wall.

I drive Newberry Hill all the time :)

The building posts are 6X6's and the doors are framed with 4X6's...

Well, I had planned on doing some of this stuff myself, but my employer decided I needed to come back to Japan. So while I'm gone, I'm paying to have some progress made. Most of the insulation is in and the drywall is going up. For now we are just drywalling the walls, will maybe worry about doing the ceiling later?

Sweet! The drywall should be finished up this weekend. I think I'm going to put the metal roofing type ceiling in. I've seen some pretty nice pictures on here.

I think once the walls are painted I can safely lay the RaceDeck down too :)

Well, I just got back from Japan. Good timing! They finished up the drywall yesterday. It's all primed and ready for some paint. Hopefully I get that done in the next couple of days.

How does it compare to a Miata?

Well, since I am a Toyota guy and have never driven a Miata, I can't give you an informed OR unbiased opinion.....

So, based on my bias and ignorance to anything Mazda... I would have to say the Miata *****... :)

Well, this is probably going to look just like the last picture... but I got the inside painted today. I just went with a flat white paint. Now I'm going to clean everything up and get to work on that Racedeck flooring :)

I would leave that ceiling alone. It looks really good imo as it is almost industrial like. looks cool

This is a great project.

I would finish the ceiling, in some way. Even if it just meant painting (like some businesses do) right over the insulation and joists.

Yea that ceiling could use a little finishing. If you want to keep it simple you could just spray it all white, the insulation trusses and all. That would really help brighten it up in there too.
