My new gov't project cabinet

Was looking for a cabinet to hold my engine analyzer on and ran across this just north of me in Santa Rosa-along with other things. Near as I can figure it is a former gov't cabinet as it seems to be primed with Zinc-Chromate and is battleship grey. I also got a dolly with awesome castors that are totally greasable. So, after the scroll saw gets restored then I will get to work on this thing. I will strip it and paint in the same colors as the engine analyzer with some sort of decal to boot. So I will ask questions galore when that time comes and if people are interested I will post pictures.

But he also had an Alemite garage locker/bench and a 30's fridge for sale. I just could not afford the price or the room-and they were both reasonable.

Mike

p.s. I didn't read the gym-dandy paper closely enough, it is not made by them. I just can't figure out how to edit the title and remove the picture.:bounce:

That's a really nice Alemite cabinet, but what's that blue thing sitting in front of it? I looks like some sort of work stool with tool holders on the side?

When I go to restore the cabinet, what is the best way to strip it down to bare metal? Blast, sand, or chem strip?

Thanks,

Mike

If it was mine, I'd clean it up a bit using some rust converter and leave that puppy just as-is. That's real deal patina, and not this **** people try and mimic nowadays.

If you want to go with stripping it the only real way to do it would be media blasting, but I'd take the slides out since the media will find it's way into EVERYTHING. You'll also get a better finish at the end the more you remove. Do you have the missing drawer? Cool find

The other drawer is on the ground next to it. I am thinking media on the drawers and doors and chemical/sand the rest.
