So, I REALLY needed a new gun. I was using an old MAC from, who knows how long ago. A few days ago, I asked about the SO 18v cordless. I appreciate all the replies, & I still may end up with one. BUT, for now I opted for a pneumatic one. I have used the other guys MG725 a lot, when the MAC didn't wanna do anything. It good, but I wondered what else was out there. Also, not sure it's $410.00 good. The most bang for the buck seemed to be the Nitrocat 1200K. The SO truck had one for 279.00. Napa had the same thing for 229.00. So, of course I told the SO guy "no thanks, I can get it from NAPA for 189.00" and got off the truck. He followed me in the shop & did it for 189.00. My first impression is quite good. This thing seems to be an animal. Time will tell. Aside from singing the praises of my new buddy, I wonder,.. What the hell is the markup on the truck?! I'm always getting, what SEEM to be killer deals. I know the SO guy isn't in the biz to lose money, but I'm always getting $50, $75, $100, or even more off of stuff. I'm quite sure others do too, but damn, what IS the markup?

So sorry for my ramblings, my wife listens less than you do.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say mark-up is probably in the 55-75% range. Just guessing, don't really know for sure. Find out what your dealer's vice is. Thats the best way to get the good deals. When I was wrenchin full time, my SO dealer loved to barter stuff(guns mainly). When I was in tech school, my Matco dealer chewed, and I worked at a convience store. And as always, cash in hand helps quite a bit.

I run a manufacturing business and sell wholesale to direct resellers, and "normal" margin is around 30%. It can vary from 20-40%, but if it's much less than about 15%, normally most resellers won't bother with it because it pretty much barely covers overhead and breaks even if they're lucky.

On certain products, the margin can be significantly higher, this is probably one.

I don't deal in tools, but the margins above seem to be pretty standard for most businesses.

I don't have first hand knowledge of overhead on a tool truck, but I'm guessing it's pretty high... because of that they probably need a really good margin to play with to be able to make it, which is why sometimes they seem to give such deep discounts for the right customer on the right item.

That is true, on item "A", the margin may be very small, but on item "B it could be huge. Who knows. I also REALLY like the barter system TCJ mentioned. I have a new guy, I need to learn this one. Got to know the old one pretty good. :-/
