Hi,
Admittedly, I can sharpen a Drill Bit by hand with a Gauge pretty well, but...

No way as good as a Machine set up to do it correctly.

Have been keeping my eyes open for years and finally found something I was looking for...

Found this on FB and offered the Seller $100 and he took it.

Sometimes people just want something out of their way, I guess.

Yea, a little ratty but should clean up well and there are still parts available from what I see, though this is suppose to be complete???

Just diving into information on it now.

Seems to be desirable to Home Shop People so we will see?Grinder 1 .JPGGrinder 2 .JPG

Cool! Have you tried it out yet?

I have one and never use it, though. I'm a journeyman toolmaker and sharpen drills in my sleep, lol. Still nice to know it's there if I want to use it.

Hi,
No, found out I'm missing the Stop that goes on the end of the square rod.

Seeing if the Seller can find it now.

Will get on the Mill and make one if I have to.

Talked to a Tech at Lisle and he sent me some Blueprints to use if needed!

Good on them for that!

I've owned one for years. I don't use it that much. it works better on the larger drill bits has it is kind of hard to setup and see what your doing with small sizes.

Hi,
Well, have heard nothing from the Seller on the missing Stop for the end of the square rod.

Saw a pic where an Owner was missing the same part and just cut a peice of bar and put a square hole in it.

Wanted something a little more to the original part.

The original part is a casting and would be pretty hard for me to duplicate but came up with this.

Rounded all the edges for comfort and decided to install Grub Screws so I could get it as smooth and tight as possible.

Did not have a Broach so had to file the square hole.

I used some drill rod for the extender but have a real piece of 1/8" HSS coming in the mail.

Think it will look good and work well after painting and the refurb!

I have a tormek T8 and it's a dream for many sharpening tasks. But their fixture for the T8 for drill bits costs $350 and frankly I can buy premium Norseman drills for the rest of my life before I break even on that kit.

Hi,
I use Norseman Drill Bits...

To be honest, I do not really need this drill bit sharpener but think it is so cool had to try and get it.

Happy I did, will sale my DD and use this from now on!

Hi,
You might put a "Wanted" Ad here on this Site...

Seems there are people that have them that do not use them?

Admittedly the DD is probably faster, but I like Gizmos I guess!

Hi,
Well, after making the Stop decided to try the Sharpener out.

Still missing some thumbscrews and labels that are in the mail from the nice Lady at Lisle.

Had some bigger drills that I use on the Lathe, most have a 2MT.

Some of these were victims of someones hand sharpening not using a Gauge, I guess...

Wrong lip angle, ect...

I am missing numbers on my angle tags, drill size, ect. so just set everything to "middle", so to speak just as a Test.

Not bad really, a fun Machine to run, a little slow maybe, but not that much, and a lot more satisfying than a Drill Doctor, to me anyway!

Time for the Refurb...

Hi,
Thanks, i think it's going to look like a shiny new penny when I get done.

I doubt I sell it, but I will sell my DD!

I admit it is a little "fussy", to set up, but I like that and...

I think it gives you a better grind from what I see.

It is a well made Tool!

When I get my new Tags I will be able to dial it in better for each size drill bit...

Looks great, you did a really nice job with the restoration. Enjoy your new tool!
Hi,
Thanks, can't stop with this thing, I have wanted one for so long!

I'm now making a Dresser Tool Holder and a Base to put it on so I can clamp and use it where I want.

Also good to move it outside when you dress the Wheel as it creates a lot of dust!

-Out of curiosity are you using a diamond (recommended) to dress the wheel with? You can also rig a water trap for some of the dust. Wish I had a sharpener like that.

Hi,
Yes, used a SHAR'S Diamond.

Worked VERY well!

These Grinders are around if you look for them.

Some people here on this Forum might have one to sale. (also Hobby-Machinist)

If you do buy one make sure it has all the parts or most anyway.

Lisle has no major parts available!!!

Hi,
Well, I think I am finally done with this refurb.

Mounted the Grinder on a MDF Base, made a holder for the Wheel Dresser and...

Found a Gentleman to make me a new Label.

Had a lot of fun with this Little Machine, and look forward to using it!
