I am an auto mechanic by trade. Thirteen years ago, I started at a Good Year tire store. The techs there told me to save all the belt sleeves off of all the Gaterback belts I install. I was told I could turn them into our Snap on man for 'tool credit'. Of course, after collecting them for a year or two, our old curmudgen of a dealer said, "Nope, never hearda that". Kept on collecting them out of habit. Into year 5 a new uppity young guy starts a route and I ask him about it, again, "never heard of that" but at least he calls his district manager and low and behold, yes they do.

I have to trim the cardboard sleeves to show just the part number, bunch them in 25 ct bundles(sent off around 300 sleeve numbers) and mail them off. Six weeks later I receive a Snappy gift card for about $100. Which I use to buy a bluepoint pliers set. Cool.

Fastforward to now. Five years since I worked for Good Year (at an independent shop now) and in my storage room I find more sleeves that for what ever reason I never sent off. I found my "gatorback club card" and shoot them an email to see if it's still active. It is, and it is. AND they tell me I have 17,000 points that equal ~$150 worth of gift cards to anything from snap on/cornwell to Bass Pro to Outback to Visa debit cards.
AWESOME !

Long story long, I send in the sleeves I have left to end up with a total $275 !!

Being that I can find much better deal on tools here, I opt for the Visa cards. I get 11 of them at $25 a pop. And swag. 2 t-shirts, a hat, a fender cover, 2 blankets, and a diecast car.

So to the point of the title, my non-occupational tool arrival

So if you fit drive belts you can get a nice gun?? Only in America :)

After I had worked for RAC for about 4 years I found out I had £450 in membership commission from signing people up who had broken down at the side of the road. I took it Holiday vouchers for our Honeymoon.

On reflection I would rather of had the gun :)
