Finally got my NOS Record 6" vise mounted on my bench today! This is one of the nicest vises that I've used so far, smooth as butter and solid as hell!

Yeah, I was just so damn excited to use the magdrill my neighbor offered that I just mounted it. I figured I could do the superficial clean up after I had it on...

Great vises, but make sure you do not pound on it, those front jaws do break off. Also have a #6 and a #5. Make yourself a "helper" to hold up those long pieces.

I like that helper arm that you made!

I don't intend on beating on this Record vise, I've got a POS Chinese Wilton for that! :)

That helper was made for (primarily) holding driveshafts ) out the door when installing new "U" joints. (Made from junk that was around)

I got my start with No 6's in the early seventies, finding one broken in a garage barrel near my house. Got it welded for something like ten bucks and it lasted for more than twenty-five years. When it broke again, Princess Auto offered me a LIFETIME warranty even with that vises' history. So that's how I ended up with the new one in the pic.

You know yours (and mine) is the later model, as the earlier one I had, had closed in mounting holes.

They will last a lifetime if properly cared for..............
