It's nearly six feet tall, has 240 small top bins, 96 middle bins, and 32 large bottom bins, and spins on a bearing base. I've never seen one of these before. I've got the perfect spot for it, so when it popped up on the list, I went and grabbed it for $140. This nut and bolt borg spaceship solves all my fastener storage issues in one revolving box:

Of the 368 bins, maybe ten are broken, trashed or missing. I'm thinking I can fab some new custom ones out of some acrylic sheet or something. It has no make on it....closest I can get to it's origin is that the small bins say on the bottom that they are "#5" and were made in Canada.

After that I'll tap out a few dents and paint it my favorite red.

If you find out who made it, or who made it, let us know, I am sure that you could sell a bunch of them on here.... Rich

I will be disassembling it for paint; maybe when I get into it I can find a maker or some details. I searched all over the net for something like it I could compare it to, but all I found was the traditional revolving open-style bins. This thing was definitely made in a factory somewhere.

Do you have the desire to spin it as fast as you can? LOL! Neat piece!

One early memory I have is being with my Dad at the hardware store, about age 6, I reached out to one with the intention of doing just that, right as my hand touched it, I felt a firm spank with a "Don't you dare"

Dad knew what his young'in was thinking lol :lol_hitti

Ooopsies......I guess that makes the other one a bargain at over six bills.

Now I know why me and two other guys ran Death Race 2000 getting to this thing....I beat one guy by five minutes.

Ya, $624 and NO little drawers......just the tower! It holds 16 combination drawer units and the one I just priced was $107 I think. End up being closer to $2400......oh!.....you wanted that shipped? I think You did VERY well. You even get a "you ****" for that. Congrats!

Great find. Should organize things quite nicely. If it's made in Canada, it may be a Holt brand. I have some of their small parts bins. Just a thought.

Does this thread have anyone else thinking about a dozen of THESE:

http://www.harborfreight.com/40-bin-organizer-with-full-length-drawer-94375.html

..mounted to a 1"x1" rectangular steel frame sitting on a HUMONGOUSLY strong lazy susan?

Not sure it would be worth it though at $15 apiece?

EDIT: Oops, it would take 16 of these at $15 ea. or $240, plus the steel and I'm guessing a very heavy duty lazy susan from McMaster-Carr, will be:

http://www.mcmaster.com/#lazy-susans/=fsnvwu

Looks like the 900 lb capacity one would do the trick. $85 isn't all that bad. So MAYBE you could build one all-in for about $400? Not counting the fasteners, of course!

.....you're not too far off base, actually. Looking inside, I can tell you that this thing is based largely on a six foot long threaded rod. Revising your idea: take four of your HF tool bins and offset them to make a cube. Four of these cubes would make a nice height. Cut square plates of wood to go in between each cube stack. Drill a hole through the center of each wood plate. Run the six foot long threaded rod through the hole thing with a plate at the top and bottom of the entire thing. This will place the entire assembly under compression - which is how mine seems to stay together.

I'd be inclined to to place nuts and washers along the length of the rod at the plate intersections to cause the weight of the upper bins to transfer into the threaded rod, as opposed to the weaker plastic bins.

The base bearings could be fabricated using small casters or roller bearings arranged in a circle against a metal plate for wear.

$240 for the bins....1 six foot long 1/2" rod.....half a sheet of 3/4" ply......washers and nuts.....fabrication of the bearing base.....But you'd have 640 bins in 1/4 the space it would otherwise take up. Do-able.

BTW....take your time buying the bins with coupons and get them for $192....

Very nice score. When you start to fill it up, one good idea (not mine, from some wood mag or forum) is to hot-glue an example of the nut/screw/nail/whatever to the front of the bin. You could label the bins as well, but the visual cue of looking _at_ the "screw, panhead, #8, 1-5/8" might work better than words.
BTW, I am bitterly envious.

I really like it too! Might want to keep it bottom heavy and get the top filled with lighter weight stuff. Not that it will not hold it, but if ever uneven at the floor or your two 10 year old nephews decide to spin it like a merry-go-round,,,, disaster may strike and you will be making even more drawers to replace. Really nice find though.
