My new shop

I am getting a new garage and workshop. It comes with a 2313sf house with 4 bedrooms an office and a bonus/family room that is in addition to the regular family room. It will have a 3 car garage with the third bay divided off from the rest of the garage. That third bay will have a divider in it making a 10x7 space and a 10x13 space. The 10x7 space will be the dog room. My big lab, Mason, will have his space and will quit getting his muddy feet all over my projects. He will be safe away from the sharp tools also. the rest of the space will be about 10x13. That will be my shop. I know it is a small space, but it will be a dedicated space. I have big plans for that little space. I have so many ideas for work benches and tables and different types of cabinets. The hard part is deciding what to put in there. I have time to decide on how to lay it all out. We have signed the contract and paid the deposit. The target date for completion is Nov. 15 with Dec. 31 being the final deadline. The lot is a good size corner lot almost .4 of an acre in size. Now we wait...I hate the waiting, but it will be worth it.

Good luck with the build, I had to go over every day and take measurements to keep the crew honest. Caught them shorting me 2' of driveway, lucky I went over before the pour. They still got the best of me, as the driveway and front walk have sunk 4" over the years. Got the driveway lifted but had to replace the walk. On your plan I like the man door going out the back from the garage, wish I thought of that.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on it. That door going to the backyard is for the dog so when it's raining or snowing he is not tracking mud all over the house like he does now. He can go right into his room and dry off.

I've long been a believer that many put to many doors on their workshops. If you have no plans to park a vehicle in there then consider walling off the OH door opening and having wall space you could utilize. Frame in the door opening so it would be simple for the next owner to open it up and install a garage door. Just my thoughts.

I've long been a believer that many put to many doors on their workshops. If you have no plans to park a vehicle in there then consider walling off the OH door opening and having wall space you could utilize. Frame in the door opening so it would be simple for the next owner to open it up and install a garage door. Just my thoughts.

I had thought about doing that, but I think I can better utilize space by keeping the garage door functional. That will allow me to roll my welding table out to work on long pieces of steel. Having that door open will also make it easier to maneuver sheets of plywood on the table saw.
