My "New" Snap On Boxes - Questions...

Well I hit an auction Saturday that had 4 wagons of tools on one end of the property, and in the field were all the tractors, scrap metal, tires, and at the end of the tire row, a couple toolboxes. I quickly identified the snap ons, even though they had no logo's, and saw a caterpillar top box too. When the bid go there I was bidding against scrappers and old tire buyers (???) and got these old top and bottom boxes for $37.50! They are KRA59C and KRA377. I didn't need them but couldn't pass them up. I cleaned them up a little and I'm planning on selling them for a quick profit on ebay or craigslist, or someother local method.

What I'd like to know is an idea of what they are worth in this condition. They're pretty solid, flat, square, roll nice (1 drawer hangs up at the middle transition, but you can get it to open all the way). I have no keys, possibly missing some component (door?) for the bottom box, and no logos. I'd like to sell them for a nice sum, but quickly. I'm assuming I could get somewhere between $250 and $300 for these. The top box is much cleaner than the bottom.

Typical for bottom drawers, still smooth though.

I need a set of larger boxs, so please keep me in mind and call me if found. I have a attourney filing disability for me as I was electrocuted but not dead and still need to try and make a living for my 3yr. old son and my. My wife left us after my 2nd surgery when I stopped breathing in recovery. I will pay shipping.

Thanks, JASTECH

nice get.
you might be able to get that much for them as is, but if you put on a new coat of paint and the snap on logos you could get at least that much probably more.

Cleaned up $350 for the pair is not unreasonable. I would pass on the logo's, they'll cost a lot to relpace. I'd opt for a couple of small Snap-on stickers in their place. Head over to HF and pick up some cheap china drawer liner material and spray-tack it into place in all the drawers to give it that new look. Get the locks to work. I always pick up rings of keys at estate sales and I've found several to open toolboxes and locks I have bought over the years. Good luck.

I think its more that the original post wasn't worded the best. Made it hard to understand exactly what you were asking/saying.

Thoughts:

1. Great buy! - $37.50 for a KRA59C and KRA377 is almost like inheriting them. I've usually had to spend $500, sell off most of the tools and have a week's work involved to end up with that kind of deal. The old pre-aluminum/chrome trim boxes are my favorites.
2.
I didn't need them but couldn't pass them up.
Great rationale, but one always needs more old Snap-on boxes.
3. You know enough not to even consider the labor and materials cost to paint them. If the goal is max resale profit for work invested, anything beyond a wipedown with WD40 becomes a negative equation.
4. The market for older boxes seems soft right now. The good thing is craigslist is free and you can run them indefinitely. Many photos, cut and paste the old catalog description, position them as a collectible rather than just a working box.
