my "new" toolbox

Unable to justify cost of new "snap on" boxes I managed to buy a "snap on" rollcab/midbox and top box on eBay. It was then a good clean out and respray to customise the box for my garage.

Thats a nice find. I have an older snap on Topchest that is probably abpout that old, maybe a bit older, and its very nice.

Yeah yeah... I didnt buy it though... I had a great uncle who was a mechanic and when he died most of his tools were sold off, but for some reason they kept this top box, and 20-30-40 years Later Here I am.

Is it possible to disassemble a box like that and have it powdercoated in a different color? I'm thinking they might have used rivets and it would be a total pain in the ***...

Yeah, they are welded and rivited, at least the more current ones are. Snap on boxes havea reputaton for being some of the most secure boxes out of the tool brands.

forget the tool box, lets see the Dino. I saw the DinoGT on the tool box and then recognized the wheels on the lift. Dino is way more important than a tool box

Although a pic of the Healey under the Dino would be nice too, very very nice taste in cars.

Thanks for your replies, glad you liked it.
To answer a few questions,

I got stickers off by carefully peeling them, scraping with a razor blade to remove any bits and then cleaning off the gum with "panel wipe" which is the trade name over here for the solvent you wipe over panels with just before spraying to clean off polish, grease etc but not take off paint.

Boxes are welded construction so would be quite difficult to completely take apart.

How old do you think those boxes are?

Yes you guessed the cars, I will post pictures of them and my humble English garage later.

Id say that box is at least 15 years old, but def. no more than 35. What gives it away is the chrome and the style of the 'snap on" Check out how its got that bubble letter font.

I bought my Snap-on box new 15 years ago. Best purchase I ever made. BB drawers and a side box with slides. I worked for a local Benz. dealership as a line tech. I have plenty of room and can find most any tool I need without digging, as long as it's not a screw driver or plier.
Will post pics. when I have some.

i have redone several old boxes like that for myself.. and have one more snap on left.. you can gut them down pretty good... blast them.. and then powder coating them shouldnt be a problem.. ive used hammerite... rattle can... i think for my next box... i am going to look for some new rails... with bearings... see if i can find them any wheres...

anyone know where?

my non-Ferrari Dino does have the heart and soul of a Ferrari with its Dino V6 (which by the way is my personal plate on the car DINO V6 ) Now you know why I recognized the wheels.

And my old British cars are 2 1934 Singer's, guess we have almost the same taste in cars, Dino, Old British cars and lifts, sounds like my garage.

Thank You, for the record its a FIAT Dino, its my pride and joy. Not many built and fairly rare, but I get to drive a Ferrari with FIAT insurance prices I actually think it sounds better than a Ferrari Dino. It gets a little mellower I think due to the longer exhaust system, (maybe I am wrong and just plain biased).

Parts are Ferrari prices though

(and yes, I know a Ferrari Dino never said Ferrari on it, it was like my FIAT simply known as a Dino)

The Fiat Dino was made to contribute Enzo Ferrari's son....who died at an early age....just some info for the readers
