If you need impact sockets the newer line of Pittsburgh pro impacts are really good. and the earthquake line of air tools rock as well.

We have one member here who bought virtually everything from HF when he
started out his business... Used them for many years and made a successful
business from using them.

Those ratchets do get quite allot of love from people here... Great addition to
your tools.

I gotta get to hf. I own and buy a lot of quality tools, but extensions are one of those things that a HF version would serve me fine using. The wrenches look ok, as long as they're chromed and clean
And they don't fit loosely on fasteners, I'd be interested in them. I'm a ratchet snob so no ratchets from there. Maybe screwdrivers if they aren't pot metal.

Good start... I do recommend the earthquake line and pitt pro impacts as mentioned above also if you plan on getting into pneumatics.

I still need to try those ratchets myself.

Ya I'm going back and getting a lot more stuff soon as my wallet funds work better for me

Be careful... you've been a member for the Garage Journal for a few short days. You're going to get bit hard after going into the deal thread or the classifieds or worse yet... any of the threads in the tool section. Then, you're going to want to upgrade all your "new" tools. Just a word of warning... it happens time and time again. :D

Once you start browsing the Tools of the Old World and Tools of Japan threads it gets REALLY bad.

Oh yeah. I've been trying to hold off, but the Hazet, Nepros, Stahlwille, KoKen, and Gedore are calling my like a siren song. Once the dam breaks, I'm sure I'll be turning in change and trying to sell plasma...

I run 2/3 economy stuff and 1/3 prestige brand stuff. The HF stuff does have its place.
Among my cheaper stuff are the Taiwan extensions and sockets, no troubles using them at all.

Flat rate tech, maybe not. Weekend warrior wouldn't note any shortcomings quite as fast.

Either way if the OP is doing some mechanical work he is pretty well set to get started.

What tools do you use at work? I see your a caterpillar mechanic.

Well I just started as a caterpillar mechanic.... So right now I'm using the shops tools till I get my own stuff started at work.... Definitely gonna be a mixture of so, HF, crapsman, Mac, matco.... A lil of everything I'm sure

I have the HF 1/4 composite ratchet. I really like it. Still trying to get used to the reverse lever. Opposite direction from my craftsman and snap on.
