Finally finished my new workbench.

It's made from re-claimed Douglass Fir timbers from an 1880's building in Seattle, Wa. built by the Moran Brothers.

The old floor joist were a full 3" X 18"

The cast Iron corbels were from an 1880's building that had a machine shop in the basement.

Not sure what type of machinery they came off.

The black deco lines on the top are boat caulk, the kind you'd find on an old Chris Craft.

It weighs in at just over 500lbs.

The washers on the stretchers are hand made by me.

The feet are Ipe

Just needs a couple of vises mounted.

That is REALLY nice. As others have asked, what are you going to be using it for? Anything specific, or just an all-around bench?

I'd use that in the dining room (even my wife said said that it's nice enough for that!)

Very nice work.

Kind of like a new car, you only really care until the first ding. After that, it just starts gaining 'patina'.

This bench is in my basement, not out in the garage. It's for smaller, cleaner projects.

What's not in the picture is a 1/2" rubber matt that fits over the whole thing.

I'm thinking this thing will be around for a few hundred years, but it won't be perfect for long.

Wow! Nice bench. It would almost be criminal to do actual work on that work of art.

Very nice craftsmanship. Like stated above, I would hate to do any kind of beating on that beauty. Again, GREAT JOB!:)

That is one snazzy workbench.
Old buildings can give up great material during demo when prepping for a remodel ,the only problem is the stash of treasures can start to take over storage space if you not careful.
What kind of finish did you use on the wood ?
