My Night in the shop

So I spent most of today refinishing kitchen cabinets. Ended up taking a break to install a battery in my parent's SUV. After getting back from grabbing a few drinks with friends at a local establishment i returned home. I headed out to the shop to put another coat of paint on the cabinet doors. Meanwhile all I can hear is the terrible wind outside. I get down to my last three doors and the power goes out. Being the resourceful person that I am, I calmly in the pitch black shop make it over to my tool box. Open up my electrical drawer and pull out one of the many flashlights (always have to get them free with coupon from harbor freight). Small problem with the generator, is the battery. The battery in it was a circa 2008 interstate that literally blew it's top off and cracked the case. I was planning on picking up a new battery for the generator later this week. Fortunately the battery that I pulled from my parent's truck still had some juice in it after all. I put that battery in the generator and it fired right up. And not even 3 days prier I had ran a new power wire for the alternator and put some new terminals on the cables. It was really one of those stars aligning moments having that battery core to get the lights back on. I was able to finish painting the cabinets, run to the gas station and get another 5 gallons of gas for the fuel drum, and make it online to tell my story. Will have to do a proper survey of the property in the morning for damage. Only thing found so far from the winds is a piece of soffit from the shop got torn out and destroyed. Power is still out in my area. An eventful day to say the least.:shocking:

Its nice when "solving one problem opens up 5 more problems" settles down a bit and you have all of the tools and materials right there to make things work :)

I suspect the combination of soaking rains and high winds that we are also having is bound to take out some more trees by tomorrow.

I might as well have gone to the shop. Thought I was losing soffit in the wind last night. Lay awake past 1 am listening to it. Big branches off the neighbors tree lying around now.

1990's era kohler 10kw generator. Originally produced with an airpac unit and installed on electric company trucks. Also has a heat exchanger, and dual stage compressors on the sister unit.

I installed a Kohler whole house generator almost three years ago. It takes some getting used to though.
When the lights go out you just count to ten and smile.

The sound of your generator running is music to your ear. The only other noise I hear is my neighbor cussing as he is drawing his out of his garage. Lol
