This is a car I built up in the early '00's. Basket case to a great driver. Not collector grade I would think due to non-matching vin on chassis and block, but this is the one you want for spirited driving.

My daughter got into a health care jam and had an insurance company, whom she paid regularly, refuse to honor legitimate bills, which is what insurance companies do. "If you want it, come and get it." Anyway, I sold the car and helped her out. Of course I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but that was the one I wanted to keep.

It appears the price of the '02's are rising fairly quickly. Too bad. They are a fabulous car to drive and fun to work on and the parts are still reasonable. The '02 was the car that saved BMW's ****. I watched them run at the Glen when I was a kid.

Auction pricing is pretty crazy at times. I would say this went at over double what market "should" have been, but again, auction environments are....unique. I sent a note to the Auction house asking them to have the buyer contact me so I can tell him what he has. Haven't heard yet. That car has all the tasty bits.

Nice looking car. I came real close to buying one after I graduated college. How long did you own it?

I bought it in '98 and sold it just prior to moving cross country. I sold it in '11. I also had a 2002 Turbo I bought in '02 and had professionally restored. Just sold that in Feb and that is what paid for the new 960q ft shop. I now have the new shop and no car! hmmmm?

Cool car, I would love an 02 but unfortunately between rust and the fact there were never very many here finding a good one is hard, they were not too expensive last time I was looking but that was a few years ago.

That's sweet! One of these days I'd like to buy/build an '02 with a modern M3 motor in it:
