My Pipes Shake!

We are staying in a rental home and I have never run into this problem before. When taking a shower, if the hot water is turned down low it starts shaking pipes pretty severely. As soon as you turn it back up, it goes back to normal.

Any ideas?

The vibration you describe, is usually an indication that the faucet

washers need to be replaced. Check the seats while you have it apart.

While this does not apply to the OP's problem, the stops under a sink can also cause the same thing when the washer in them starts breaking up, + does not shut off the water to the faucet.

The easiest fix / attempt is that the surge arrestors (air chambers) in the house's plumbing may have filled with water. #5 found here

I've used these before, available at lowes/menards for <$20:

They're also handy for newer high effeciency washing machines. Mine turns the water on & off quite regularly when in the wash cycle & caused a fair amount of water hammer until I put an arrestor on both the hot & cold lines.

I had this problem and I figured it was just poorly secured pipes, so I added more copper straps and now it is quiet, I never thought it could be a actual plumbing issue.
