So like many, I have been lurking and gathering ideas on how to improve my shop. I first found this site when researching how to improve the performance of my double barrel stove, which works perfectly thanks to you guys.

This is my shop, it is 40X42. It is actually part of a hundred and something steel building that was made in to a house. It is 2700 sq feet of living space, a stall and a half garage, and then the shop which is 1680 sq ft. I then added a 24X40 lean to on the side of that to keep the tractor, trailor, lawn mower and other stuff out of the weather. Here are the pictures of what it looked like the day I bought it.

How does that double barrel wood burner work out?

Palmetto - It is a Pup, has a 60" deck with the 30 HP Kohler. I love it, has cut my mowing time in half. I was using a 72" finish mower on my tractor, but during the spring I could hardley mow due to the ground being so wet and making ruts. The only thing I dont like about the ZTRs is that they dont keep very good traction.

fasteddie24 - It works really well. Took some tweeking to get it right due to me running the stack out the side wall and up as appose to through the roof, but I got it figured out. There were several times that is was in the low 20s during this past winter and I could get it up to the mid 60s with in about 45 min. I didnt get the place insulated until late in the winter but it made a huge difference. Next year I plan to run pipe through the upper barrel and attatch a furnace blower it and direct the air in different directions.

That is a real nice place you have there. I was just down at a shop this morning looking at the metal type sheds and buildings. I am going to make a small shop in my yard that will be 16x24x10. The company I was talking to is www.americansteelinc.com I think I am going to pull the trigger tomorrow morning after I look at another company.

Thanks. I love it out there. I race ATVs so I can come home, jump on the bike and ride when ever I want. Not to mention I dont have to travel to hunt. I have 5 acres of timber plus another 40 or so that is with in a mile from me that I can hunt. I took this buck opening weekend this past season, it was my first buck.

A couple of suggestions for you if you go with a metal building and plan to work in it in the winter. Make sure you spend the money to get the vapor insluation for hte walls and ceiling. Also, if you can, install radiant heating when you pour your concrete. I with I would have but didnt know alot about it when i had my poured.

Well here in sunny California 40 degrees is cold for us. I usually just use a small heater in the winter in the garage and my shed. It will bring it up to the 60's pretty quick. I be more worried about being in a steel building in the summer when its 95 degrees outside. I am sure it will get pretty hot in there.

Ya, my shop gets pretty steamy. I am planning on installing a garage door that I can open up to let the breeze blow through right behind where the ATVs are sitting and a gable end vent to **** the air through.
