Re: Fraud and Extortion by Rock Auto

I understand your analogy and agree with u in that instance but I also do quite a bit of business with rock auto and know that they clearance items that they also stock at a higher price. Usually the clearances items are old stock/packaging. I think there is more to this story than the original poster is letting on.

I agree. There may be more to this. But all I have to go one is what he posted. If what he posted is true than this is a ****** way of doing business. If your closeout analogy is what happened then it is what it is

Re: Fraud and Extortion by Rock Auto

Guys, it's probably time to let this thread go and move on, just like the OP should move on.

Yes, the OP is overreacting with his claims of "fraud," but we've probably hassled him enough.

He did have a problem. RA's supplier (the supplier with the lower price) appears to have made some kind of inventory mistake and RA didn't handle it perfectly. But it appears they're giving him a refund, which is what many companies would do in this case and that is a pretty reasonable response.

We should probably all put down the keyboards (OP included) when it comes to this thread.

Re: Fraud and Extortion by Rock Auto

There is not more to the story. It was a crappy customer service deal.

Was not a sale or clearance item. Nothing unusual.

Me personally? They should have made it right. You could always call your credit card company and go through their dispute department. That usually works well for me in the rare case I do have a problem.

I have ordered from Rock, they were good. However, my local WD typically matches Rock's prices, so I give him the business instead.

He got a refund. There's nothing to dispute. :dunno:

Hmmm...I wonder if the OP realized he was inaccurately using phrases like "fraud" and "extortion" and changed the title of this thread, or did a mod see this and change the title of the thread?

In the attached photo the new title of the thread is highlighted in red. The green box shows the original title of this thread.

New thread title:
My Poor Customer Service Experience with Rock Auto

Original thread title:
Fraud and Extortion by Rock Auto

I asked for the change on my own free will. Seemed too many people got hooked on the verbiage and not the actual situation.

Ummm..... No. You asked for the change because the thread wasn't generating the responses you wanted.

Please update us on how your online campaign to shut down Rock Auto is going.
I don't see it trending on Twitter or Facebook....

I do not care about the responses at all honestly. The thread has the info it needs and it can have whatever results generated with no worries from me. I do not use either of those mediums.

Thanks for the bump!

Went to the site today to see if they had it in stock now and if they retained the higher price and found it is back to the lower price and supposedly in stock at another warehouse...

Only trolls that I see going on here is Strouty and SMKS.

OP came in with a problem...a crappy business deal which involved him entering into a business transaction at X price. There was no mention of anything wrong with his order until 8 days later. Which they reply, sorry you need to pay more now because of supplier differences.

This is where RA should have stepped up. Anytime I have made a purchase online or in store, the advertised price is the price I pay. If I get to the register and it rings up something different what do you do? You say "It said the price was X". 99.9% of the time they will check the price tag and a manager will change the price and apologize for the inconvenience. That is what a good business would do.

The fact that RA didn't have the customer in mind on this honestly is disheartening. They will not get my business either.

And to answer the trolls of this thread: Will it bring down RA? Nope. But they are losing business because of poor customer service practices. Will they go out of business? Naaa...but they will have a few $$ less because of a poor customer service decision.

Scooter, anytime someone comes after a company with a crazy vendetta, like the original title stated, then I want to see real hard evidence. If the title had been what it is now, I would not even have argued with the OP. I think we are missing a bunch of info and we definitely do not have RA's side.

Sure he came off a little harsh at the beginning. He was pissed. Since then he has brought the thread more into line with the severity of the accusation. Let's work off of that and stop on the bashing against someone who has a valid point of being mistreated.

In my opinion, its ridiculous that a grown man would carry on like this over such a simple situation. If you dont like Rockauto, fine dont buy from them anymore.

Ive made many orders at RA and have not had any issues. In fact, next time Im going to get a part from an online retailer, it will be RA just to spite you.

Quite mature of you.

Thanks. It just so happens that I was about to buy $250 worth of suspension parts from CarID, after reading your thread, I decided I was going to bring my business back to RA just for the heck of it. Turns out, after the 5% discount RA, is actually a couple bucks cheaper than what I wouldve paid at CarID.

I'll post the invoice later tonight after I order the parts.

I hope it works out well for you!

I think it did. If you like, I'll update when the parts come in.

And for those that think Advance is similar to RA, I challenge you to find the codes at Advance to bring the price of these parts to what I paid for RA AND to qualify for the KYB rebate which is $40 back on a set of shocks/struts but all parts must be on one invoice.

For the record, Im a big fan of Advance but only for parts that are under $125. Otherwise, RA slaughters them.

I've bought parts on eBay, Amazon and RA, and at times I've gotten them for less than Advance's own wholesale cost (though RA has not been able to do that yet). Sometimes you win, sometimes not.
BUT of those four, only Advance can get me a part same-day! Sometimes that is really important. Also, in Advance's favor, they bought out a few other companies in the past few years, and that has really improved their parts network.

As for KYB, the last time I bought KYB struts, Amazon beat RA handily, mainly in the cost of shipping. You need to factor this into your equation, but every purchase is different.

In this case, Advance didnt have these struts in stock locally. Even using the $50 off code or the $40 off $100 code, I would have to do 4 separate transactions to get each strut shipped at exactly $75. Total to my door would have been $300 but I wouldnt qualify for the rebate.

The other draw back with advance is they usually dont have the higher end brands in stock in store, they usually have to be shipped. Advance usually has their driveworks brand and one or two other options like Dorman or Moog. Advance will usually never have OEM or OEM like stuff such as Motorcraft or Denso in stock.

The score in my opinion:

hardtrailz= not a troll and has defended his position in post 91. He is entitled to be bitter with the way he was treated. RA should have honored their mistake and continue to bait and switch on their website.

But again, it doesn't seem to be a bait-and-switch, "fraud" or "extortion" because they're giving the OP a refund.

It sure appears there was a simple inventory mistake with a supplier. Maybe now the lower-priced supplier has it back in stock and that's why the price is back down.

A refund is a pretty reasonable response from a company in this case.

If the OP has made a reasonable complaint in the first place he probably wouldn't have been hassled. Instead, he came out with over-the-top, inaccurate accusations like "fraud" "extortion" and "bait-and-switch."

Clearly other people are not letting it go. The thread keeps being brought back up and repeating the same things.

I'm not trolling. I didn't bump the thread back up today. I'm simply pointing out some of the continued inaccurate claims being made by people.

You throwing around the trolling accusation could be seen as baiting people, which in itself is trolling...:D

Thanks for sharing your experience, I won't be buying anything from them anytime soon. The fact they charged your credit card prior to shipping is enough for me to stay away.
