Hello everybody.

I have been lurking through the forum for some time while I was building my Quincy 325. All of your previous posts and builds gave me great inspiration and knowledge to be able to complete my build. I just thought I would share a few photos and videos of how my build came out. I am going to be posting photos in different segments over the next couple of days. I hope you enjoy. All feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

In these attached pictures you can see my new to me Quincy pump being taken home after finding it for $200 on CL. I originally ordered a QT54 brand new but after reading this forum and seeing everyone talk about how great the 325 was I knew I had to have one. So I cancelled my QT mid shipping and somehow found my 325 pump on CL.

Now that I have a pump I need a tank and motor. I was browsing for a while until I came across a complete SB PL705 for $300. I jumped on this deal and know I’m going to disassemble the unit specifically for the tank. My father is building a compressor with a IR T30. I figured I could give him the SB pump as it is pressure lubricated rather than the T30 which is splash lubricated. He was happy.

I began to completely strip the tank and prep it for paint over the next couple weeks. I ordered a new single phase Baldor in the meantime.

The next couple weeks I was able to get all the pieces together and give it a test run. When I turned on the power I noticed the motor was struggling to turn the pump. After further inspection I removed the valve covers to find the valves completely covered in soot and gunk. I worked at degreasing everything with minimal results. I was eventually successful by boiling the parts with cascade gel. This removed all the gunk and the parts were sent off the be bead blasted. All the parts came back looking new. I was excited to get everything back together.

Your story inspires me. I have the same job to do this year; can't wait to get a terrific 325 Quincy going again. Man, your valves now look great!

It’s unclear from the photos but did you remove the valve plates from each valve assembly? These can either be replaced or sanded to a mirror finish (as can the seats).

There is also a screen inside the case that pulls oil into the filter that ought to be cleaned out. Probably clogged based on condition of the valves.

I own only 1 325 currently but have the urge to buy another, it's like that! Good luck, that thing might need some rings?

That’s a good point. I will have to check that screen out. I am getting around 20lbs of oil pressure but I’ll check anyways. It pumps up to 175 in no time. I tried to upload a video but for some reason it isn’t working
