Looks great! I'm getting ready to drop the hammer on this very soon. Any words of advice or lessons learned?

Very nice! That is the same pattern that I am planning, although I am going to make the perimeter and the single tiles in the pattern flow-through to help with air-flow (I'm afraid of mold...)

A good pair of working gloves and some knee pads. Everything else is cake. Use a rubber mallet, not your hand or foot. I damaged one tile by being too lazy. Order a handlful of extra of each color in case you need to replace one in the future.

Zedder,

Since you are up north I can see the concern with all the snow. A few free flows and you shouldn't have an issue.

Did you use the composite wood floor foam stuff beneath your tiles? I've heard others mention some noise and the foam as a solution to correcting it. I have some of the Race Deck on order and want to be prepared.

I chose not to use an underlayment. I had some fiber based landscape fabric that did change the tone a bit in tests. I found no issues with going without it. Just realize the tiles sound hollow, bottom line. I don't find it an issue as some people do.

We sell a lot of polypropylene tiles from Daytona to Swisstrax and if you don't like the hollow sound and you don't want to use an underlayment you might have an issue. Most people don't ever notice it but for those that do their is some additional information on http://www.garagefloor.org

Justin is right!
The sound a floor makes really is almost a non-issue for 98% of the people who purchase modular flooring. Every floor has it own unique sound.

But - We are about to introduce a multi-patent pending RaceDeck garage floor system that reduces sound and offers anti-fatigue properties- it will be a system that can be interlocked with the standard RaceDeck products seamlessly ( work stations, walking paths, in front of doorways and so on) . We already have a similar system in in our SnapSports sports flooring line http://www.snapsports.com/shockTower.html ,
but there are some differences for the garage flooring....We will surely announce it here when we launch:beer:

hey Racedeck,,,
i got a couple questions,, and forgive me,, i'm not a flooring expert by any means. My garage floor is a concrete slab,, (as probably 99.9% are) i have expansion joints every 10' X 10',, and they are deep 3/4" - 7/8",, i've broken a few wheels on my creeper seats,, just scooting around,, forget where i am,, then snap,,, over i go,,, another broken wheel.

Here's my questions:
1. Do you have a very thin flooring? that i can use,, to cover my garage floor, that will span these joints? leaving "flexibility" in the concrete so it doesn't crack? able to hold up my 300lbs as i roll over it on a creeper seat? (Keep in mind,,, i don't want something more then 1/8" or thereabouts. I need it thin as possible)

We really do not manufacture anything less than 1/2" tall. It sounds like you are looking for a floor cover ( mat ) rather than a floor system.
the issue with very thin suspension modular floor is they really have no structure for rolling loads. This is also the case with 'soft' tiles ( pvc) as the load compresses the floor and could cause bulking or at the least make it very difficult to roll equipment.
vinyl peel and stick tiles could also be an answer for you but if you are working in your garage they really do not react well with gas, oils and chemicals when spilled on ( tires also stain them)
Good Luck

Severum - Great looking floor!!

It's amazing what just getting a clean floor can do to a garage. I recently used a Swisstrax floor and love it. Same basic principle as RaceDeck, snap together and enjoy, and it's been quite an eye catcher.

Go4Dave - My creeper wheels don't have any problems scooting along over the Ribtrax pattern, a little bumpy, but otherwise, no issues. So, maybe you'll be ok? I don't know if this helps or not, but for what it's worth...

Is it safe to install a midrise lift ON TOP of Racedeck/Costco tile? Will it hold the weight ok?

Does the RaceDeck floors withstand the weight of a floor jack or jack stands not leaving indents or dimples?

Absolutely it is safe, in your other thread there are pictures of both my 4post and my mid-rise on RaceDeck.

Rinker...That depends :) I have had dimples left by items on my RaceDeck but it seems to be self-healing because a few days later they are gone, especially when its warm outside. I do have some dimples that were left by some machinery several years ago so it will dimple. I got larger casters for all my tool boxes and other machinery that moves around and not had a problem since. I also have AC jack stands that have a base at each leg, they will NOT dimple the floor but a cheap stand with just the steel corners will. Basically if you look under a tile, you will see that there is a honeycomb under it with about 1" squares, if you get anything that fits in that 1" square and is heavy it will dimple. If you make the weight is distributed over a few squares then it will NOT dimple, my jack stands for example have a 3" diameter circle welded to each of their legs, so it works great. My tools now have 5" or 6" casters and no more issues. I don't leave my car on the floor jack without jack stands so never a issue, a few hours on the floor jack wont hurt the floor, overnight might with a heavy car since they have such small casters but safety says you should have the weight on good jack stands anyway.

You just have to be a little careful.

I think mikeyr covered this question pretty well, thank you! :)

RaceDeck will hold up to 99% of the abuse thrown at it in the garage. In regards to weight loads, I am confident there is not a vehicle that you can park in your garage that would crush RaceDeck. As for jack stands - other than the cheaper angle inron stands that can have very sharp knife like edges, you should be good. 4-posts lifts- every lift that I am aware of on the market will do just fine on top of RaceDeck. Unlike many of the copy modular tiles you see on the market, RaceDeck will not crack / shatter.

If you do manage to permantly indent a tile, we will gladly replace for you at no charge, just give us a shout. We also have RaceDeck Jack-stand plates for those who use the angle iron type stands.
Thanks again!

My Racedeck flooring is on the way now. About 660 square feet. Anxious to get it installed as soon as I get a nice day. I will also start a post on my experience. Hope it goes as well as it did for Tyson.

Hi Jorgen,

I really like the look of your product

I was wondering about how to install Racedeck in a garage that has several "twists and turns" for areas that have wardrobe type closets with sliding doors. I would imagine the tile would lay under the sliding doors, but what about the adjacent wall areas next to the sliding doors? (i.e. sides of the closets). Do you simply cut the tile and put a piece of edging in those locations and simply follow the configuration of the walls? (Any pics available of how this type of installation looks would be great!)

Also, curious how easy it is to clean the race deck floor in an environment that is also used for woodworking? Does sawdust fall in between the tiles? And lastly, how resistant is the tile to (deep) scratches - I would think they would dull the look of the tile? :headscrat

Thanks,
Mordi

Not Jorgen but I can answer this part :) For the first part I can say they cut very easily.

The tiles are really tight fitting, no way sawdust will get through the seams. Even water will sit on them for several hours prior to seeping through. Scratches happen :) The tiles are the same color throughout so its not a big deal, I can walk in and show you deep gouges in my floor from years of use but I bet you wont see them until I show them to you.

Well, I have an order pending and need some help. I am going to be hanging some Gladiator wall cabinets today that will be above my soon to arrive Lista cabinets. I want to put pegboard on the wall beneath the Gladiator cabinets and above the Listas. I know the height of the Lista cabinets and the wooden top, how thick are the Race Deck circle track tiles? I will have the pegboard extend past the top of the workbench, but it would be helpful to know how thick the tiles will be.

The floor looks great!

I am considering this for my "redo" of my ~20wx22d attached garage. I am planning a big detached build sometime down the road, but for now trying to make so with what already exists.

Is there any way to "insulate" the floor under the racedeck? I am thinking even just a foil/radiation barrier might help quite a bit. I am going to insulate the rest of the garage thoroughly, and I think the racedeck will be a better solution that an epoxy coating to keep me and stuff off the ice cold floor, but is there anything additional that can be done to insulate between the tile and the cold concrete?

Thanks,
Steve

Rinker,

I think it was around 450 sq ft. or so since I didn't do the upper lip.
