My turn to start a Race Deck thread!!

I final ordered my floor. I have been in my new house for about 3 years and planned from day 1 to put down tile. In my last house, I did a 2-car garage in ceramic tile and I loved the way it came out! The only negative was how much hard work was involved. I am no slouch, but to do it again and for a 3-car garage, um, the more I thought of it, the more I was dreading starting!

That was the main reason why I didn't start....fast forward to me join GJ and seeing the threads about RaceDeck and I liked the way they were turning out. Got some samples, placed my order and bam, it will be here Monday the 20th!

I went with the TuffShield and think it'll look great! I am adding some more cabinets to the garage and will take some pics tomorrow and post up how it is now. Once I start the project, I'll be updating this thread with my progress!

Feel free to ask any questions.

I'm still not finished, just need to do all the cuts along the edges. I'll take more pics once its all done.

A few tips:

1. Use gloves. As I got along, I started feeling the tiles make my hands sore. I think its the plastic rubbing on my hands and feels like it started to make them sore/tender.

2. Use a cushion for your knees/knee pads. They'll work wonders.

3. Take your time. I was battling an incoming storm and wanted to get my car inside before. I could of stopped, but I was so excited to get it done!

 RaceDeck Rocks!! I am totally happy with it.

Looks great so far. What's the black rubber strip by the door opening, looks very useful-any info on it?
Great idea having your son help, bet he'll remember helping dad with the garage floor for many years to come. My boy is 17 so I need to work hard to get him involved these days:)

Thanks!

I had put down a rubber threshold that I bought online at Amazon. I was planning to do tile at first and this was to help create an edge for that. Now I use it and the edging that I bought from RaceDeck.

 yup, hopefully he'll remember it as much as I will!

Congrats. It looks great. I've had mine in boxes since August and now have about 1/3 down. I hope to jack up the bus project and tile under it so I can finish the rest of the floor. Yours looks great!

Looks fantastic. What is the fabric you are putting underneath the tiles?

Also, let me know how the TuffShield works out. Local guy who sells Racedeck told me it scratches very easily and to stay away from it unless you had a "show car garage".

Interested how your personal experience is.

Looks great! Is there much noise walking on it?

Not really, sounds like a wood floor. To be honest, it doesn't bother me at all.

Nice job.Congrats!!Nice choice of car too.

Thanks! I just picked it up last week!

I put down 'weed blocker' fabric, other members used it to cut down on the 'clacking' sound the floor makes. Not sure if it makes a world of difference. Yeah, my garage is more of a Show Garage than a Working Garage, thats why I went with it.

Nice job and nice C5!
Thanks!

Any comments from the neighbors yet? I already have the cleanest, man-cave garage on the black with my existing epoxy & rolled floor mats and receive many "close the door, you're making me look bad" jokes from my neighbors. I can only image the comments I'm going to get once I lay down my Racedeck floor.

I have neighbors like that as well. Since I live in Florida, we don't have basements, so all my Chicago basement man-cave stuff ended up in the garage after we moved. As a result, I don't view my garage as a place to store "stuff", rather another room in the house that I want to make efficient use of.

It amazes me how many of my neighbors park their nice cars in the driveway only to fill their garages up with junk, boxes and $200 lawn furniture.

"Use it, sell it, or give it away" has always been my motto. I guess I am the polar opposite of a hoarder. :lol_hitti

More pics!!

I am pretty much done. All tiles are down and just need to take pics of the baseboard installed. Overall, I am very happy with the outcome!

Looks FANTASTIC. Nice installation and thanks for choosing RaceDeck:beer:

Thanks Jorgen!

Thanks! I picked that beauty up from Home Depot about 8 years ago. Not sure if they still have it or not.

How well does a "creeper" and tool box roll over the tiles?

Looks great btw.

Thanks! So far I have rolled my 'seat' across it will no problems, a little bumpy, but I didn't have to fight it to get across. Same goes for my tollbox on wheels, no issues for me.

Nice job! I love the color combination and pattern.

Thanks! :bounce:

Great work, Jimmy; you and your lil' helper certainly did a fabulous job!

I have two tiny questions about your new floor:

1. Is there any obvious scuffing yet on the white tiles from any steer tire slippage?

2. (the proverbial) Now that you're done, would you have done anything different?

Thanks in advance, buddy! :)

Thanks! :D

1. I havent seen any marking from my tires, but I had seen some from my shoes. The mark does come off pretty easily though.

2. Honestly, the only I would of done different is to use gloves from the start. I didn't and by the end of the install, my hands were pretty tender and sore.

Thats about it!

Thanks,

I went to see Jimmy’s floor and also had the pleasure of meeting his beautiful family. Congratulations, you have many reasons to be proud …….and the floor isn’t half bad either.

The floor looks great and I must say that the cuts around the cabinets and all made it look far too professional. I had to ask if he laid the floor first and put the cabinets on top. He said it was easy but I am not sure I believe him as I may be a little less of a perfectionist than how his project turned out. Didn’t see (hear) any difference between where cloth was laid down first and where it wasn’t.

Bottom line: the floor looks fantastic. His garage is immaculate and something to aspire too.

PS: your wife does have to talk to my wife about the cost effectiveness of laying down a floor like yours.
