My Raceshop/ barn

This has taken me 16 months to get this far. Its a post and beam style structure. Its 1886 sq.ft. . The main area is 30 x 40 for car storage and has a two bay shop space that is 24 x 28 with the lift. Above the shop space is parts storage and above the main space is a lounge area with sofa's and an air hockey table. A future bar is planned up there and you can go out on the mahogany deck. The roof is a standing seam aluminum and Anderson Windows and doors have been installed. I have run a 100 amp. service out there.

Lighting is being installed currently. The shop space has just been painted and the lift will be installed this week. I already have cabinets and tables from my sponsor www.craftline.us and cant wait to install them.

This site is great and has given me many new idea's. I am very impressed with the thought that has gone into these garage's.

Here's some more pics.

This is a picture of the loft in the main storage area. The railing is oak with oak wine staves that I got from the Millbrook Winery, Millbrook NY owned by the Dyson Family of Dyson Racing.

The seams on the concrete walls will be ground down smooth and I will use Drylok on the walls. The sheeterock is 5/8 inch Type X with a primer and a eggshell white paint.

The explosion proof fan in the wall is from Bowlin Industries. I have a trolley ( Harbor Freight) mounted on the I beam support with a hoist for pulling engines.

The lighting is being installed now as you can see and is 8ft. flourescent lights. There will also be drop down work lights for each bay for close work.

The garage doors are from Overhead Door Company and are R-12.9 with an awesome weather seal on the sides and a bulb type seal against the floor. There is no air infiltration at all.

I am currently designing another similar shop on an old barn in my area for another car guy. It will be bigger than mine ! Learned alot about this type of use and I design houses for a living.

The barn doors slide over the 12' Anderson French Wood Glider for a barn look when I am not at home and for security. There will be a patio outside the doors for entertaining the racing crowd and the cars will display well through the doors.
The main barn door cover a commercial roll down door from Overhead Door Company and is white powder coated for a clean look. I will take some pic's this weekend of it. The openers have not been installed as they are pricey and not a necessity now. The roll up door opener will be about $1100 and the two 9ft. insulated door openers will be about $900 due to the fact they will be side mount to gain overhead clearance.
The upstairs is accessed by an interior stair in the main part of the building and the area above the garage had a door over the hillside area to lift things into the 2nd floor. Its about 5 ft. above grade there and I will not put steps or a ramp for security reasons. All of the windows will also receive shades of a flame retardent material so no curious eye's can look in when I am not there.
I also have a Gladiator Refrigerator as a gift from my wife in there which is nice. I also have a hammock upstairs just behind the french doors and two sofa's given to me that have four lazy boy recliners built into them. I will be installing a Vision Screen that my wifes company sells and will have a picture area of about 4' x 6' with a front or rear projector. The screen is such a high quality that it is usable in broad daylight. This will be great for watching F1 on Sunday mornings or replaying our racing video's. I also have a few manequins ( my wifes company manufactures them) that are dressed up in my old racing uniforms and crew shirts.

Here is the garage roll up garage door on the inside from Overhead Door Company.

Just bolted the Chicago Cord Reel Drop light to the concrete wall with some mollies. It will have to be removed when I Drylock the walls when the weather gets warmer. Below is a rolling cart from my sponsor Craftline.US I have one of these carts for each racecar to hold specialized tools, parts and maintenace parts.

They make lots of tool benches, tool cabinets, nut and bolt bins and wall cabinets. They are located in North Haven Ct. and make much of it there. They also have a warehouse sale every now and then and you can get some great deals.
The white cabinet is a First Aid Cabinet. Decal has to be applied still and cabinet needs to be stocked. The cabinet below is also from craftline and is a nice size wall base cabinet that has matching uppers. I will line the wall of the open bay ( without lift) with base and uppers that are black and red. Its narrow depth makes it great for this location.

Better shots of the roll up door

It is a steel door with a white factory finish. The gaskets on the side seal very well and there is no air infiltration. The bottom has a bulb style gasket and seals well also. I highly recommend this door.

How much is a door like that? That would be nice if you have a lift right in front of the door. That's kinda what i'm faced with. I won't be able to open a conventional door with a car up on the lift.

$2400 installed total as you see it. The white finish was extra as was the special weather strip and bulb gaskets.

The shop area has regular doors and the tracks are installed tight to the walls and ceiling to aid clearance. They will get a side mounted garage door opener also to aid clearance.

The lift is finally installed. 9000lb. capacity for those dually brake jobs etc. Its a 220volt floor plate design.

I have fabricated aluminum diamond plate covers for over the garage door.

Next up is Drylock on the walls and then I can install the cabinets.

First up is a new balanced and blueprinted engine to be installed in the SRT as its race season.
The car will be on Speed Channel on SPORTSCAR REVOLUTION coming up with in car race footage from Florida.

Tire rack added !!

My neighbor knocked on my door to tell me he was tearing down his garage !!! I couldn't believe it. It goes against my car crazyness. anyway he told me he had some pallet racks and would I like them for my barn ? They were a bit rusty and nasty yellow. Sure why not.......

A few hours later they were in my truck and on their way to the barn. another few hours of sanding friday night. A few cans of Krylons best and here we are. New tire racks !!!!!! and all it cost me was a few cans of spray paint.

Couple of questions:

- What type of siding is on the structure?

- Is your lift assymetrical? If so, how far from the door is it?

The siding is pine shiplap with a stain finish. It was a prestained so all the seams are covered. The trim has the knots triple sealed. then primed and then painted white.

The lift is symetrical and is almost centered in the 28 foot deep bay. Its a 9000lb 220 volt unit.
The lift installer was very careful when measuring and locating the position of the lift.
I highly recommend getting an installer. Its cheap for the amount of labor involved. He picked it up, delivered it and installed it for $400. The installer was Road Island Tool 401-413-6986. He covers the Northeast and installed mine in Ct. . The floor plate was missing the threaded holes drilled into the post base plates. He will return ( paid by the factory) to drill, tap and attach the floor plate. He will also adjust the lift as the arms are not exactly equal now.

I know this is a reply to an old thread but any opinions on the pallet racking. I have wheel/tire sets that are taking up valuable floorspace and plan to install some pallet racking.

Also did you hilti them to the floor or just leave them freestanding?
