Hey Guys, Been lurking and taking advise from the wealth of knowledge on this forum. Last spring summer and fall I doulbled the size of my shop.I had to tear down my old 22x15 shop to build the new 22x30x12 foot ceiling shop.I found myself on here everynight getting answers to questions during the build.Of course its not done, I'm wiring up the welder outlets now, then I have to install the air compressor and piping. All this to get ready for a lift.
Here's a pic of where I'm at now

Here's what I had before

Great job putting those windows up high like that. You get the natural light without the snooping eyes, and you get more wall space too. Nice setup.

Is the complete garage cinder block or just portions. I see the back wall is all cinder block. If it is all block, how did you fasten the firring strips to it and do you have strofoam insulation under the siding?

Thanks Guys, Its been fun building it. And yes it is all block, solid and rebarbed in corners and pillasters, the rest of the blocks were filled with vermiculite
backwall1.jpg

The outside was stuccoed with a blue dye and came out like ****, so we drilled and screwed the 5 quarter by 3" ferring strips with concrete screws and then insulated with foam board.

Whats the difference in R value between the block/vemiculate and a 2x4 or 2x6 wall w/ R 15 or 20 insulation?

e-tek, I think I'm lucky if the actual R rating is 4-6. I'm using the same Modine heater I had in my smaller shop, Its a 30,000btu unit. It was overkill for the smaller shop but a little under what I should have in this one. I leave the temp at 50 and raise it to 65 when I'm working and so far Its been working good, Even on the coldest days.

Question, It took 3 guys one day to ferring strip it out,Then 2 nights after work to foam board it.

Looks good, I am in the final phases of mine, too.
My new side doesn't look quite as spacious as yours, but I have a '40 Sedan in it, a bit bigger than the T.
Nothing like movin' in!

Cinder block hollow 8" thick = 1.72 R value
Vermiculite loose fill 1" = 2.20 R value
Styrofoam sheathing @ 3/4" thick = 4.0 R value
Vinyl siding = Miniscule or not listed

So that would make a total R Value of 7.92. Surprising though that a concrete block has more insulation value than a solid concrete wall. The air pockets must add to it. A solid 8" concrete wall shows only having an R value of .64....almost 1/3 of what an 8" block is.

Nice garage. Does the Modine heater run on natural or propane gas. I know where 2 new ones are for sale(75000 BTU) but run on Natural gas for $350. I"m not sure of the cost to convert this model (PD75) to propane.

Do you have a picture of the backside and top of the heater?
Do you have any problem with vibration with using just one mount?
My propane tank(250) is 200 ft away so i will probably use 2 100lb tanks

Old Relic, The other pic is deceiving, there are two threaded rod mounts which hold the heater very solidly, no sway or vibration at all, Heres a pic of the top

And a pic of the back

And looking up in the back

That is exactly what I wanted to see. The two that I am looking at have a line running from the pressure reducer to somewhere and am not sure what that line is. This is a seperate reducer (I think) that sit on the line about a foot from the one mounted on the unit. Thanks for the pictures.

I have a Street Rod also.(1934 Ford)
