Hi All,
I'm pretty new here but learning tons. Like others I was totally blown away by some of the building here. I thought I would post what I have built and what it cost. Hopefully it will give some people who are on the fence financially the motivation that you can do it a little at a time.

My shop is 25x40x10. 6/12 pitch shingled roof. All stick built with 2x4 walls(would do 2x6 if I could do over).
8x18 garage door. 36" Man door.
Two 4x4 windows.
I think there are 35 110 duplex outlets.
2 220 outlets.
Exterior lights front, back and one side.
4 T8 fixtures (not installed)
5 incandescent fixtures.
1 Holgen work light above bench.
Now cost.

Contracted footing and foundation. 36" foundation on 8"x10" footing. $5600
Lumber for walls-$3500
Trusses -$1000
Garage door ininsulated came totally disasembled with no instructions bought on CL $300
Windows bought on CL for $50
All electrical expect the power run to the house Which I am doing now -$600
Man door- Free from a freind who had it lying around.
Sheeting, tar paper, shingles-$2200
Vinyl Siding - $1800
Garage door opener1/2 HP belt drive unit bought on CL -$100
Floor 4" thick $1600 when done, currently half of the floor is poured.

Still insulating and sheeting/drywalling as I go. About half done but I havent added up reciepts yet.
All said and done I hope to be finished for under $20K.

Here are some more pictures. It's kind of cluttered right now. It will get better once drywall is up and all shelves are built.

Very nice size indeed. It'll be fantastic once the inside is done. Keep the pics coming.

I simply love deeper over wider. Just for the simple fact I like having a cave like feeling in my workshops, where I am away from any source of cold air and being in front of the trucks. One day I hope to build a 30x40 with double 9x9s in same configuration as yours, man door at the big door end.

Thanks for the compliments. I'll post more pics as the thing progresses. I am starting to second guess my shelving and bench layout after seeing some of the stuff here. I guess it will forever be a work in progress.

nice garage. Other than thicker insulation -- why would you go 2x6 next time?

Thanks

Chris

Overdue update. Got all the wiring finished up. Hung outside lights (no pics sorry) Finished painting the facia so the city will be happy. about 80% insulated. Just finished pouring the 2nd half of the floor on Friday. I am not a concrete guy. My cousin was nice enough to do most of the finishing. Poured the first half last fall with the plan of finishing it early spring. Well, 1 year later it is "done". Now all that's left is, drywall, more shelving, epoxy floor, more bench tops, over bench cabinets, plumbing the compressor... As previously stated, it's never "done" . That is the best part. Also put in a pic of the new boxes in their rightfull place. Working on filling them.

They do. I am finding Fall and Winter are my garage updating times of year. I have too many things to go break when the weather is good. Takes all winter to get them fixed and ready to break again.

True = the only real "down time" is after the grandkids baseball, football, etc is all done. Although I did get the golf cart fixed quick - it was 47F today and older grandson wanted to drive it around the neighborhood anyway LOL.
