After a week of thrashing, I have a heck of a mess going on, more like a disaster. Am I the only one that ever has a disaster once in a while, I'm not talking pack rat stuff, but rather a huge mess after a project ( or 3 in my case)

This week I assembled the rotating assembly of a 460 ford, a 440 mopar, and currently installing a 9 inch rear in the nova.

Rest assured, all is right with the world and perfectly normal! All of us that actually work in our shops/garages have many times where our space looks like that.

Easy answer, pick a dead Sat or Sunday, go in, watch a game or listen to tunes and get to it, you know "Whistle while you work" and clean er back up!

Hell, that ain't bad, I've seen alot of shops that look alot worse than that before starting a project...........

Simple fact is that the place is gonna get messed up if you're actually getting something done.

What a mess, being I'm a nice guy I'm willing to help you out.:bounce: To help clean up your shop I'll take the engine stand ( red one ), sandblaster, air compressor, engine cherry picker and the red tool chest ( top and bottom, tools included ), and of course to show you how nice I am I'll pick it up at no charge to you.

You can have the red stand (one without the engine) I built a 460 for a friend, and he's got the same stand, The engine bowed the stand almost to the point of touching the ground. Cheap asian stand (sigh). THe blue one is another asian one, but older, and much better quality. Everything from continental engines to BBFs have been built on that one.

My place looks like that once a month; even without two projects. Clean up is a must and it usually takes me a good Saturday afternoon to get back to normal.

I look at car work as a hobby. I'm not in any rush so I keep it clean and clean as I go. Of course I'm building show cars normally, so whatever dirt, crud, rust that comes off I want in the trash right away so as not to contaminate something else!

Of course, some jobs are messy, but if the shop is clean to start with, it just takes a sweep to get 'er back:

Thought I was the only one who did that.

Once I get into a project, the "clean as I go" thing kinda goes out the window. Tools and parts get placed everywhere, as I'm focused on getting the job done.

Afterwards, after the car/lawnmower/snowmobile/whatever project gets done and completed, its kinda cathatic to go through and clean all the tools, sweep everything up, and put everything away. Gives me time to think.

I put stuff away and sweep before I leave my shop if at all possible. Sundays are my playday in the shop and cleaning day. 6 days a week I'm doing customer stuff and Sundays my stuff. Your shop looks like it is sufficient for what you do. Give it time though and you'll need more space.

I spend two days going through stuff, and started to sump the fuel tank of the nova tonight at like 10pm. GF is out of town so I have to get as much done as possible. Seriously I hauled out a ton of junk and I still have a ways to go on the cleanup, plus I have to get the nova on the road by may. Looks like the thrash fest look is here to stay for a bit.

It's a good thing. It's your shops way of purging the things that don't belong. If your garage were pristine all the time it would mean you've got too much idle time on your hands!

I try to clean as I go most of the time. I freak out some of my buddies when the come over to help and part way through a project I'll say "STOP! I can't work like this":shocking:. Once I get to the point where I can't find tools that I need it's time to to get things back in order.

I also have a bad habit of every few months I tend to want to rearrange things in order to gain some more space. I'll haul a few things up to the loft, put up some more shelving or just make room for things to get tighter in the areas they are in. Here's one of my rearranging moments mid move

It's never ending. I always find more space to put the stuff I keep bringing home. It's my "24'x42' BLACK HOLE" as my wife refers it. Things go in all the time. Only to never be seen again!
