Hi everyone!

i'm new here and this is my first post. i started shopping for my first house early this year with my only requirements being a nice yard for my dog to run around on and a garage to keep my bike in. I found this house and fell in love before i even went inside. the house itself is from 1953 (i bought it off the original owners) and started off with just a 1 car garage on the side under the porch. They added the rest of the garage some decades later (80s i think).

i will be using the front garage for motorcycles and tools and keep the 2 car strictly for parking.

all i have done so far is started painting it white since they thought yellow was a good idea :dunno:

i just wanted to get this started to get some ideas off everyone. the first decision will be what to do with the floor. i would love to do racedeck or similar, but i can't afford that now.
i also need to add steel doors for the side entry and going into the basement (2 doors since 1 used to go outside). there are also 2 windows that will be replaced with glass block for security.

here are some pictures of what i'll be working with:

i have replaced the light on the outside since this was taken with a dual spotlight.

If it were mine, I'd get rid of the yellow too. My parents had that same color on their house for years, hell my whole life I think.

The only other thing I would do is get rid of the jalousie front door on the house. Jalousie windows really date a house.

Other than that, the place looks fantastic!!!!

You may also want to think about replacing the gutter on the front of the house so the downspout doesn't run across the roof ridge caps and then down. It will lead to premature wearing out of the roof. Replace it and have the downs come down on each corner of the front and then out towards the road.

thanks guys!
we've already picked out new front doors we like, but updates are coming one at a time as money allows, hence why garage improvements will come slowly and i've started with just painting it.

Fantastic Home and wicked garage....really like the Bike Stall! Just a thought but visit your local Renovator's Resource or similar group in the area. They may have Cabinets etc that will do the trick until you can consider fancier stuff if you ever do. Grant

Very nice garage. Over on the this side of the state we have a few Habitat for Humainty stores, you can usually find good deals on cabinets there.

Excellent blank canvas, lots of possibilities there. One suggestion would be to replace the door with a solid core unit without glass for security.

I notice the garage has fire sprinklers. Is that a code requirement or just something the previous owner installed?

Looks like a great blank canvas to work with.

what I dont get is why you (appear to) have flat concrete ceiling with a sloped roof above it.

Looks great though! Lots of potential!

If it were me and I had the funds for it, I would put some sheetrock up over the block walls to smooth it out... but thats just me.

thanks! i'll be purchasing a solid steel door when i have the money.

Wow, is it just me or are those suuuuuuuper deep bays? Nice find and purchase.
they're pretty deep, and my car is small so it looks bigger. i forget exact dimensions of it.

actually just an overhead line going outside for the garden hose and they had added that valve overhead to drain it so it wouldn't freeze in winter.

the flat concrete ceiling is the garage stall under the covered porch on the side of the house. that's where the bikes are.

the cars are parked under the sloped roof although there is drywall on the ceiling inside that part.

i agree that drywall would look a lot cleaner, but funds are very limited right now so for now paint will do

Wow, i just love the layout of your garage space. That has loads of potential, although i would take as is right now :) Great choice as well with the MK6 Golf TDI.
