My slowing growing assortmant

Hello everyone I am new here and could not find a place for newbies to introduce themselves though knowing me its right infront of my eyes and I did not see it. I don't get to use my tools often as im just a hobbiest but I figured I would show off what I consider my special stuff.

I have a cheap set of tools not shown that was my first set that got for $100 but I have a soft spot for quality stuff so buy new when I can but have a few used stuff that ive seen for sale and grabbed.

Here is my special stuff of my quality stuff that I buy up as I can afford. not much I know.

First is my Snap-on 3/8 Ratchet I got new, Next are 2 Stahlwille 8mm wrenches I got new, then is a old and used Britool 16mm wrench, after that is a double open end 7m and 8m Stahlwille wrench then a double ring 1/2 and 9/16 Stahlwille wrench then my 8-19mm Snap-on 6point sockets, then last is my SK Wayne 11/16 Wrench which is actually labelled SK Wayne rather then just SK.

Since I have my cheapy set which has suited me fine so far apart from the ratchets which in my opinion are junk but I will use them until they break. I will be buying quality stuff like snap-on as I can afford it my Snap-on ratchet is an amazing ratchet. As I said I don't get to use my tools often but buy them up for future use. I only buy quality because there is just something special about it but I have found that things like sockets and wrenches are ok from brand to brand but I like having a good ratchets as I have encountered alot that are flimsy in the gears and I don't like that but im just a home hobbiest.

Your "slow growing" assortment will grow alot faster now that you joined the forum. Member Bull, and many others have older quality tools for sale in the classifieds all the time, so temptation will be all around you!

Yep! I would buy "used" tools from member Merkava here, any day.................They might be better than new, after his 1000 point, dial caliper, inspection!

we all started someplace, and for me tool "collecting" started 35 years ago. it's slowed down over the last 10 years, mostly 'cuz i have most everything i need to do my job.
but the quest for that awesome deal is always there

I look at some of the huge tool boxes on here with like 5 of every tool in them and think damn thats alot of tools. My plan is to just get a not to small not to big tool box and fill with tools that I buy as I need them and then should I need more room then a bigger box.

You have to remember that a lot of people on here use their tools to make a living. Having that one certain tool that can save you a half hour on a job makes all the difference. Especially when those instances add up over a year!

Then again, some people just like buying stuff!

I'm somewhere in the middle. My tools make me money, but they're not my primary earner right now. If it takes me a bit longer to do something it's no biggie. However, I love being able to reach into a drawer and grab the "perfect" tool for the job at hand.

BTW, Nice collection you've got going. Hanging out around here will encourage it to grow at exponential rates. You'll soon find out it's impossible to turn a nut, bolt, or screw using anything besides a premium truck brand tool.

i think if i had to start over,
and knowing what i know now,
i'd probably start again with a quality 26" box, and add to it as tools grow.
maybe i was lucky, but every time i traded boxes in, i got back what i had paid for them.
it took a long time (35 years) for me to accumulate the tools that i have, i guess if i had them all in one place i'd need a MUCH larger box to keep things organized.
i'm limited on space in my garage, 26" & 31" boxes are easier to fit in where i have space. most of my work tools are crammed into my service truck, my KR550/555 still sits at work, mostly empty

Welcome to the GJ William,
I count myself lucky in that I grew up on a farm where tools are a big part of the trade. Problem was that quality tools were never part of the picture 'cause there's always $ needed elswhere. The forum has been a valuable teaching/learning site and I've gleened some great tools from members, at great prices, and found that some I have are better than I thought. Enjoy the journey, it's so sweet getting that next tool.

i have basically 2 sets of tools,
one for work, and one at home.
working tools are all truck brands, home stuff is a mixture of tools, wrenches mostly CM, SK, flare nut wrenches are all truck brands, sockets, ratchets are mostly truck brands, with some CM, SK, and even a few HF.
home air tools are IR, CP & astro. grinders, drills ect. range from HF, dewalt B&D, hitachi and rigid.
