very nice! i am building a house in huntersville and my garage will be about the same size, so i will be stealing lots of your ideas
any news on the lift you posted about? I can't get a real lift in my garage, so i considered the scissor lift, but wanted to see what you thought about it if you ended up with it or are planning to get it. I have a lowered s2000 so clearance is an issue
No kidding, where in Huntersville? We are in the neighborhood across from Earth Fare.
My brother got the lift and loves it. He's got an 18x19 garage and, if you can believe it, it actually makes the garage feel bigger! The reason is because you can leave the car in it's own space (instead of the center of the garage) and lift the car up. The problem with keeping the car near the wall is not the work space, but room for the jacks.
Here's a picture of us last night. That's my brother. His buddy was on the other side, and I was working the hoist.
I wish I snapped a picture of the car up in the air. It's an Atlas 7000 lb lift. It is completely open in the center so nothing is blocked by the lift. ******, drive shaft, exhaust...all open. The best part is it's free standing. Once you get it where you want it, it stays put. If you realize it needs to move, you just move it. The only thing is it's lowered height is 4 1/4 inches. My Camaro is right at 4". I would need to lay down some 2x10's or something on either end of the lift. Either that or install a raised flooring using those snap together tiles or something.
It is so cool. push a button to go up, hook up compressed air and push the down button to go down. I WANT ONE! Unfortunately, I'm saving for a cage and that has to come first. Maybe someday!
Do you do track days at all with your S2000? Those thing belong on the racetrack!
I like what you've done so far. ..Any updates?? My garage is similar in size, detached.
your 97 SS is awesome too! I had a 97 SS a few years ago. now I have a heads/cam 96 formula setup for 1/4 mile fun. What did you do with the 396 LT1??
The only thing I've done is organized a little more and installed a NG ventless heater. It keeps the garage at a minimum of 61 degrees all the time, then when I want to work in the garage, I crank it up to about 72 or so. It makes working in the garage so much more enjoyable. I find myself just sitting at the work bench, drinking a beer, and listening to music.
The heater is the black thing on the other side of the car, near the water heater. The oscillating fan helps distribute the hot air.
I have been doing a lot of work on the race car.
The taped up wing in that picture above is a lexan adjustable spoiler. It's just taped in place. Today I'm going to drill and secure it to the deck.
Lift eyes and hood pins. 2 more pins are waiting to be installed.
And a homemade oil cooler shroud. I still need to finish it.
It gets it's air from the fog light openings.
The next thing is swap rear ends, install adjustable coil overs, pull and gut the dash, make a custom gauge/switch panel, have a cage built, and go racing!
I think the next garage upgrade will be another hanging storage shelf and eventually the lift. Maybe that'll be able to come by the end of the year.
