I have two things to say about this...

(1) Busted! For lurking in my 2018 Garage Sale thread! :) … and,

(2) If I would've known that YOU were the quick confidential snagger on Dan's box, I would've thrown my Belzer Ingenieur ("Engineer") wrench into the box with the SPARTA spinner!

re: (1) Guilty as charged....but ain't that box sweeeet!

re: (2) See re: (1). And, I was just happy to get the box...

:shocking: If I could afford it, I would send all my tools to CRTDI any pay him to clean them for me. That spinner looks 10 x better than it did when I had it!

Did you paint the marking?! Or did you chalk it? I KNOW it wasn't white. It looks terrific.

I really like the way the handle pulls the yellow out of the yellow in the decal.

A little cheapie china marker was used on the lettering. The spinner does seem to brighten things up and add to the completeness of the set.

Hopefully, all the newly uploaded pics will hang around for a while....:dunno:

See, that's something I would never think of. A little detailing goes a long way. Thanks.

Here's a OOAK oddity I picked up at the flea market this morning that will go in my interesting shop mods/home-made bin....

A 1/4-inch drive speed wrench made with a Long C era Craftsman "BE" 1/4-inch extension brazed onto the shank of an unidentified speed brace with a rotating, knurled doorknob style grip on the end.

As shop mods go, this one is very well done.

Does anyone have a Plomb 4780 speed wrench? Call me crazy, but I think that could be the handle part of this thing. The shank is slightly thinner in diameter than the drive stud on the end, just like the shank on this speed brace is slightly skinnier than the shank of the Craftsman BE extension. The rotating knob on the end is a dead ringer.

Hi Lugz,
Cool find. As many shop mods go, it does make you ask why?! Here is a pic of my 4780. Shaft diameter is 1/4" and over all length is 15 1/2". The handle portion does look close, but the knob has some slight differences.

My new 4780 looks pretty much like Rubicon’s.

Someone probably used it as a prybar and bent or broke the drive end off. Fairly ingenious to braze an extension to the end and put it back to work. Cool piece. The handle could be Herbrand. I don’t have a 1/4” but it looks close in design to the 1/2” drive version I have.

Honestly, I think the knob on mine looks more like the knob in the Plomb catalogs than any of the ends on any of y'all's actual 4780's looks like the catalogs. Haha. That's the trouble with catalog images.

I'll have to go check out the Herbrand, Unaiu. I thought they were more barrell looking, no taper to the shank.

Hey Lugz, I wonder if it is earlyish Proto? I was on Ebay earlier and found an example that looks closer to yours. Not sure what the rules are about posting images or links to Ebay, so thought I'd just mention it. If you look, the one I found as a close example appears to be in Mich.

My Proto LA 3/8" speeder knob is just like the Plomb knobs, so I don't think this is probable.

I post URLs and images I've lifted from Ebay ads here all the time and nobody's complained about it yet.
Information is information - the manner in which it's acquired isn't relevant.

Hey Lugz,
Check out the handle on the short speeder from my 1939 3/8” drive set. What do you think?

With the generous help of Private Lugnutz, d42jeep and others I've been able to reassemble almost a complete 1940s era Williams Electrical Set No. 1285P. I'm only missing the NM-606 (6 pt., 3/16") and NM-1210 (12 pt., 5/16") sockets.

attachment.php

I've also got a start on another set with the NM-51 ratchet, NM-106 spinner, and the largest of the midget Superrenches perched on the top of a neat (what looks to be) homemade galvanized box with brass hinges.

Thanks for looking.

Bill

Nice looking set, Bill. I’ve checked my spares and it looks like I only have a #1212 (3/8”).

The previously posted Williams Electrical sets are nice....

Here's a late 30s Blackhawk 10ND 1/4" drive set with some early 40s add on pieces.

This particular Blackhawk set is one of my all time favorites. I started with just the box. Trying to finding nice quality pieces made this a pretty tough one to put together.

That's a pretty fabulous set, particularly for one cobbled together!

Thanks!

Do you have a tally, CRTDI? Of all your 1/4 sets? So we know how many more months these unveilings are going to last? And how long the envy will take to wear off? :)

The collection keeps evolving, so no official total. Don't think the count will stop until I'm finally put in the ground...

Hopefully, I'm not coming across as showing off. I just really like this particular area of collecting. I've been cross posting on the GG as well, originally wanting to reconstruct what was lost on the original thread there.

http://garagegazette.com/index.php?topic=309.0

I might bring some of these earlier postings here along with some newer stuff.

Don't be too envious....I still have to store all of these somewhere...:willy_nil
