^ the "Master Mechanic" is definitely EASCO made.

CRTDI - regarding your cherry "Companion" set on the previous page:
I have one of those sets with that open-gear type ratchet. (I don't have the ignition wrenches or other accoutrements in mine - just the socket set.) Would you care to make a guess as to vintage on that set?

Smokeshow69 asked if Thorsen had made that set. While the Companion ratchet does look somewhat similar to the older 77M Thorsen, what has been mentioned here by a couple members (in other threads) is that it was actually made by Western Forge.

Thanks, Don. Confirms the address I found in an old commerce directory. Love the street name: Steelhouse Lane!

Am I the only one bonkers for the all-steel spinner? Has anyone seen a solid steel-handled socket driver or spinner before? Other than the Williams/Armstrong dual spinner/extension jobbie with the rotating grip, I can't think of an American equivalent. Can anyone else? We went from wood to composite.

It looks as though Steelhouse Lane suffered from the attention of Hitler....

Nice set Dave. That must have been the deluxe model.

The spinner in my set has a female drive in the handle end. Does yours?
I don't know if I'd call this blow molded case deluxe, it's a waste of space with a weak latch. Lol. Probably newer than yours.

Snap On had m45. I think don has a walden version. Seems like a very few....

The ignition pieces are all add on items. The companion sets I've seen all seem to be pretty basic. My best SWAG on approx. vintage is mid 70s...:dunno:

This P&C set below is from the 1965-66 time frame.

Oooooh....some P&C goodness...

Yes, that one counts. I was thinking of the kind with the rotating grips that double as extensions. Those I don't count. What's unusual about the Athol is that it has been forged in the shape of typical wooden- or composite-handled spinner. It even has the grooves you would find on a typical wooden- or composite-handled spinner. I forgot to report back on the magnet test. Very lightly magnetic. I can't tell if my magnet, which is fairly strong, is picking up the shank or if it is paramagnetic. Perhaps aluminum, as Don, suggested with some stainless steel mixed in.

This was found underneath the plastic socket holder tray. Guess we're missing a lid card here......:badteeth:

Nice Easco set CRTDI, I'm going to have to pull my tray out and see if they left a card for me.:) Well, do you sense a theme with my recent posts? A mid 1950s P&C set. Most of the tools in this set were my pops, so my favorite set of all.

That is a great looking set. It’s a few years newer than my 1945 Plomb set that I recently posted on the Plomb thread. Username helped me out with a couple of the smaller sockets that I was missing.

An awesome set to begin with. The family connection just makes it sweeter....super, super nice!

That P&C set is nice! Love the ratchet, but I've never seen that little breaker bar.. Very cool!

That particular style breaker bar is made of unobtanium. Been on the hunt for one of these for quite some time now.

Another completed set.......job well done!

Thanks CRTDI, if my garage was on fire that is the first thing I'd grab. Gotta love the Blackhawk Oldtoolguy, still one of my favorite brands. Very nice set Jeep you can see the Plomb influence in the set below.
Tonights selection comes from the mid 1940s, either right at the end of the war or just after. This set is exactly how I found it, looks like it was never used. Still has the lacquer on the sockets.

Wow that is nice! I love the milwaukie/ Portland case. I would love to find one of those in the wild, let alone the whole set!

Thanks Smoke, You have a good shot at finding one. Most all of my P&C came from Milwaukie and East Portland. If you like this one, tomorrow's may blow your mind.

:+1:That's a fantastic looking set! I posted a similar set in this thread on post #58 HERE, but it's no where near as nice (or complete).

I’ve seen the toolsets listed in the catalogs in cardboard but to have one in that condition is remarkable. Congratulations.

Snapmom sent me a small extension I’ve been looking for for quite a while. It was the one piece I needed to complete my mostly 1944 1/4” drive Snap-on set. Thanks again to Snapmom!

Not exactly sure of the timeline on this set. Maybe late '70s to early '80s ?

I've been gone a couple of days in my time machine (I mean old chevy truck). I'm really glad you didn't actually quit posting your flawless beautiful sets CRTDI, I need my 1/4" fix whenever I can get it. I know this thread isn't for single pieces but thought these might fit. P&C made a 1/4" electrical set in 1929, I only have the ratchet. After that I think they quit making 1/4" sets until the mid 1930s. What they did make was a 5/16" drive set in the 1932-33 time period. Alas I only have a t-bar and socket for one of these. I wish I really did have a time machine!
