Gray assortment that was picked up together. Not sure how that Craftsman extension snuck in there, oops.

Had a good week for midget sets. The Plomb isn't in the typical embossed case so I'm guessing the case is from something else? The C-series is in a less ornate case than my other one but I believe it to be original. The butterfly set has conical sockets unlike the NOS butterfly midget set I have. Always finding small variances in this stuff, that makes it fun!

I initially believed the same thing about my late war Plomb 1/4” drive set but now I’ve seen enough examples to believe that those were the boxes Plomb was using during that period and changed to red painted ones just like them right after the war. Username has a postwar set in the red box. Check out the set in the middle of the bottom row. The second picture was taken on the day I found them together at an estate sale. The third picture is Username’s postwar set.

The Craftsman set with the plastic insert looks kind of familiar too although mine is in a Crown box.

Yup. Yours is the later Gen2 box head. I’m sitting in an airport and can’t off the top of my head recall exactly when those went away but thinking 57. Must have been old stock put in a Crown case. Nice set!

Your sets of NAF plomb look really similar to mine, oh wait..... those are super rare and very hard to find and I don’t have any[emoji23]

I love seeing all those sets together! Gives me something to strive for in the wild!

On the slightly larger than 1/4-inch midget drive topic, I pulled all these 9/32-inch midget drive tools out of the same Simonsen military mechanics toolbox this morning at my flea market just outside of Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station.

So what's the deal with Deco? First one I have ever found. Wasn't it more like a supplier, not a mfgr?

A couple of us have had them. I sold mine on eBay quite some time ago. I really didn’t know much about it.

This is an unmarked hex drive set I have no idea about. Not even a knurled on the sockets.

That looks like the sets MTF made for VIM.

In your opinion, is that a PO painting the red or original? I'll have to check my sets for traces of red...........
You didn't ask me, but the red on the box and the tools looks like a PO did it to me.

If owner painted it they did a very uniform job. Not sure why it would come that way. Any other painted examples out there?

My wife spotted this Craftsman mostly -v- and -vv- 1/4” drive set at an estate sale recently. Unfortunately, the permanex box is missing the clasp so I substituted a high tech rubber band to hold the box closed.:)

Otg, if you search on "VIM" with the Search This Thread feature you'll find posts with four.cycle's VIM set (no knurling on sockets, black wooden spinner handle, same type box) as well as my post comparing his set with the same set in an MTF catalog. Those are square drive. But I'd bet MTF made hex drive versions first, and probably made them for VIM, as well. Not sure why everything would be unmarked, except maybe it was for a 3rd party.

Thanks lugx, that is the same set. The hex set may well be something of similar origin.

Stunning ! Walden was the original Snap-On .Super quality to rival most anything even today.

GJ member Boofer sent me this nice dark finish partial Walden set containing one of the seldom seen dark finish ratchets. I believe that Walden switched to chrome plating these immediately after the wartime metal restrictions were lifted.

I just picked up a partial set this morning, Don. The usual mix of socket markings. Took one pic with the orphan cadmium-plated Walden-Worcester universal joint and flex extension (which now have a home...) that I found a few weeks ago for finish contrast.

I never really thought anything about the black finish Waldens, but looking through my stash, I found these:

But, speaking of Walden:

Found that at an estate sale I was going to just to look at the books, but I always check the garage! Also, found this little Craftsman set a couple of weeks ago. Nothing spectacular, but it is both metric and SAE. It's my new small travel set:

Picked this box up today from FB marketplace, scanning thru random pics, a small indiscreet ad for plastic containers, my eyes picked up on the craftsman label, stopped and enlarged the image and sent a text, two dollars and twenty minutes later it's mine.. now just got to fill it..! If any body got a pic of what came in this box it would be appreciated..My assumption would marked with -V- sockets, extensions, breaker, T-Bar

I would expect =v= marked tools. Here are a couple of sets in the ‘54 catalog. I’m not sure what year your box is but it likely would have had these tools. Here is my newer box but with probably many of the same =v= marked tools.

Found several sets I must of stashed for some reason.

An SK, a Challenger, a Fleet partial set and a Dunlap hexagon set.

Nice Heritage clamshell Rich. I'd say either generation of box head would be fine with it. I am, as always, missing the T bar.
