The Thorsen set reminded me that I haven’t posted this set here that I recently received in a trade with Tin Medic. It’s had foam glued over the cardboard insert and I’m not going to be able to remove it, unfortunately.

Looks pretty good. I would leave it like that.

Thanks, I agree. While I had the red box Thorsen tools out, I took a picture of a set that was made after the green ones but before the black set posted above. They are sitting on the mixed 1/4” and 3/8” drive metric and SAE set, Yankee Doodle Special.

Thanks crtdi, it is a smooth one. Started as nma-51 (plain finish) and evolved to the nma91. Very solid ratchets that as you said feel overbuilt.

Wow. I didn't even know that one existed! I have a later version with the crappy red plastic insert. That thing is a beauty! Fantastic set OTG!

With the arrival of the flex spinner, this Long C Craftsman BE set is complete and matches the 1942 catalog contents. I posted it in the long C thread but I guess it belongs here too.

I picked up this 9/32 drive set off eBay for just under $25 shipped . I don’t know how long it was listed but thought I should probably hop on it? This C series set was made by snap on for only a handful of years. Set included the sockets and extension and t handle. This size didn’t include a ratchet. The box and tools are stamped but it was a period modification so I can’t complain. Not much of the logo left but oh well. Most of the brown wrinkle paint is still present and no rust ! Set was made until 1935 when the catalog shows both snap on and new Britain or hinsdale made tools. This 10 PC set was 98 cents.

Heh, I usually need to clean my benchs one every couple weeks and it is a two day affair. Not too mention the annex or the garage...

But, even messy our benches are interesting! With stuff! And things!

I will see what I can do when I get home today, if one of our enterprising readers doesn't jump on it.

You know Lugz, we need a thread on Vintage tool aficionados garages and shops. I bet that there would be a lot of good postings.
I agree. Videos may be better idea.

Picked up this palm ratchet at the flea market this morning. No markings. Anyone recognize it? I'm not even sure it's vintage, since I don't buy contemporary tools, but looks older to me. I could be wrong.

You saw that, huh? You know I hardly ever pick up foreign tools, unless it's something really unique or special, but this thing is cute as hell and the fine-tooth action is pure butter. I posted it on the 'Old World' thread up on the GD board to ask if anyone knew when it was made, but the regglers are embroiled in a "needle-nose" vs. "snipe-nose" pliers terminology debate, so crickets so far. :)

Well, with the name Dowidat it's likely a good quality item. Made in 'Germany' can mean before or after they were marked 'West Germany'.. I have Gedore tools with both markings depending on age.

Somewhere between 49 and 88. One of the dowidat brothers that founded gedore started it in 49 and it merged with belzer in 88. Judging by the handle and script I would speculate 70s.

My 1977 Dowidat Belzer Catalog shows a round head 80 teeth ratchet with round shaft and rubber handle.

Similar # 1593 RN for 1977

Need an earlier Catalog reference to determine era one at or the other.

That is a cool ratchet. Here is a well worn cornwell set with a somewhat newer cornwell ratchet.20200820_224501.jpg
