My neighbor is retired and decided to fire sale his Snap On to me. I'm still kind of stunned at home much I received. Here's a few pics.

I don't understand when people do that. Retied or not he's going to go fix something one day soon and regret selling everything off.

Also waiting on a price... Is it a $100 mega ****, or a $1500 you ****, but since I already have all of those tools I want in a satisfactory form, I can live with it.

What is the most surprising is that a lot of it is modern tools in good shape. Most of the time when a mechanic retires and sells off his tools the majority of the tools are over 40 years old and are just as worn out as the guy retiring.

Those flare nut crowfoot wrenches that look like they're still sealed in the plastic are nice. They look old enough that they were probably made before Snap On started laser etching these. The new ones today or only laser etched, no stamping. Looks like you have a brand new set of old stock.... Are they stamped or etched?

Okay, then I wouldn't say he "gave" them to you. Two grand for that pile of used SO tools is good, I wouldn't say it's great. Just my opinion....
When insurance replaced these tools the bill was 70k, he's kept a few like his 1/4 kit and files. So call it 60-65. I'd say it's a great deal.

Often they keep one small box with a basic set of tools in it for household repairs or to handle routine small automotive maintenance jobs.
After working on cars every day for a few decades, they probably just want to enjoy retirement and are glad to pay another mechanic to fix any major issues with their vehicles.

I agree. Looks to me like used stuff at used prices. Good deal I'm sure though if you needed everything there.

There are many reasons he could have sold his tools. He's obviously retired, maybe he's moving. Maybe he's just had enough of the greasy, busted knuckles kind of life. My uncle was an iron worker since 21, he retired and swore he'd never wear a pair of jeans again. And he hasn't lol. He still welds once in a while and does random mechanical/landscaping work around his house, but in khaki's, shorts, or sweatpants. Never jeans and never boots. Not to mention he's almost 70 now...

That 3' torch is worth a few bucks used, plus the air tools and jumbo sockets/crowfoot set and that's nearly $2000 right there. A lot of that stuff looks brand new.

He knows what the insurance will pay out. He's probably going to file another claim, collect the insurance check and drop the rider he had on the tools now that he has retired.

:lol_hitti

Looks like a good haul and would be great if you were just starting out in the business.

Personally, I think all the obsession with what someone paid for something is just plain Rude.
If they're happy with what they paid, why is it anybodys business?
I find, and have found, lots of fabulous deals, but you will never see me post prices.

This is pretty much how I think. If he was seeking a "you ****" then he would have likely posted to the penny what he paid. He was simply happy with his purchase. I rarely, if at all post what I paid for something unless it was an unbelievable deal (everyone's gotta brag sometimes!) or free. Even then it's usually more out of shock than anything (used tool prices in my area are silly high).
To the OP, seeing as you did allude to what you paid, congrats on a great deal! If I'd have needed all those tools I'd have paid that price for them all day long. 40-50% of retail is the normal used tool price on eBay but by the looks of it you paid significantly less than that percentage-wise. Plus it seems like you've got one helluva neighbor there

You got a great deal. I would have to think your neighbor knew the value of those tools, which is way more than 2k. My guess would be he was making a generous gesture towards you.
