My Snap On dealer has gone missing

I am not exactly sure what to do about this.

My dealer (New to me since august of this year) has gone MIA. his cell phone goes straight to voice mail and the voice mail system is full and takes no new messages. He has not responded to numerous e-mails and I do not know his home number.

3 weeks now and still nothing.

I am sure it ain't personal, and I have spoken to a couple other of his customers and they are wondering the same thing, WTH.

So I have a quandary here, how long do I wait till I contact a new truck? And what am I supposed to do about the tools I am still owed from my old dealer? (A hand full of screw drivers and a few sockets that were missing from the sets he just sold me last month)

Suggestions>

Any Dealers want to PM me and I will give you my dealers name and my account numbers, maybe you can put out a feeler to see what is happening:thumbup:

I would call corp. office and see if he is still "active", maybe on vacation or something.

Our Cornwell dealer stopped showing so I called and they contacted him. Corp. called me back and told me he said he wasn't going to waste his time stopping by because we didn't buy tools every week. No sweat, Snap-on, Mac and Matco stops every week and more than happy to sell me what I want.

I have spent over $24,000 on this truck since August of this year,(all tools, no boxes or electronics) I am quite sure he would consider me a worthy stop.

I will contact corporate today, see if everything is alright.

Our dealer Stopped coming around too, but he was Johnny on the spot calling EVERY Single one of his customers. The Motor in his truck had to be rebuilt (that lead foot of his)

We had a Matco dealer got MIA some years back, come to find out he had been caught doing something illegal and was in Prison - and gonna be there for awhile!

Hope your dealer is okay!

the snapon guy in our area (won't call him MY snapon guy), is a total Dbag... his coverage area is huge, and apparently no other trucks can open a franchise out here... we have up to 20 mechanics in our shop at times, and he refuses to come to our shop because it's a bit out of the way. I don't blame him for not wanting to come weekly... but once a month would be nice... he had the nerve to tell me to call HIM when my tool that I ordered on his truck came in.... wtf? how am I supposed to know that? it comes to his house...
I've got about 70K in tools, and I'm nowhere close to as tooled up as a few others in our shop... they're well over 100K I would think... so we are buying customers... I have never understood the attitude some snapon guys have... Needless to say, I stop at any tool truck I see when I'm in Anchorage, or just buy tools online... Don't think I'll ever buy anything from the local snapon guy again...

it's not just the SO dealers that can/are dbags.
ive had some good ones, and some bad ones over the years. seems like more recently, in the last 7-8 years it's gotten worse.

Seriously guys - not trying to start a fight about Snap-on here but what company allows something like this to happen. The OP said it had been three weeks - emergencies happen but does Snap-on really not stay in contact with their reps? If they want to cater to the professionals - then shouldn't they be professional also?

I'm not a pro, and I've only ever been on a Snap On truck once.

It seems to me that visiting a bunch of shops every week with the hopes that someone will just happen to need something is not a very efficient way to do business. Now I know many of the sales a pre-planned and negotiated over several visits between the dealer and the mechanic. But there's got to be a better way.

How about this: allow the pros to place orders on the Snap On website for delivery by their dealer. You'd register and create an account on SnapOn.com and associate yourself with your local dealer. When you place an order, the order is immediately sent to the dealer. If the dealer doesn't have it in stock (this could be tracked by SnapOn) it's automatically shipped to the dealer. The dealer delivers the tool in the next day or two and collects payment or arranges a truck payment plan. The dealer gets a quick sale and you get your tool in a day or two instead of having to wait until next Friday.

This would probably work best for smaller shops or some of the mechs who don't buy a lot of tools. If you need something, you could get it in a day or two. If you're not in a buying mood, you won't be wasting the dealer's time with a visit when no one's buying.

I'm sure there's a lot of other activity on the truck that generates sales. But there's got to be a way technology can be put to work here to increase sales, service and profit.

It must be the OP doesnt owe any money on the truck account or to S.O. corporate credit. Its amazing at what lengths S.O. goes thru to track down people that owe them money, but when the dealer owes a mechanic something.... It "appears" to be a whole nuther ball game.

Those guys sell a lot of tools to people that see a tool on the truck and make an impulse buy. I know I dig around my Snappy dealer's shelves and buy a lot of stuff that I didn't know that I needed until I see it. If I have to plan ahead and order something I usually buy it from tooltopia, I get it in three days, it's way cheaper and I haven't had a backorder with them yet.

Some areas, dealers will not get into.White Cloud,Mi area is one and the dealer down the road in my area took it.Ludington and Manistee,Mi area was this way and now have a dealer. This dealer is paid by Snap On with a special job title,Snap On owns the truck and franchise.I have been told what one dealer did, took a Matco toolbox on trade in great shape.Came back with it at place on his route with a bottle of whiskey getting drunk with some of his customers smashing this toolbox to hell with sludge hammers. That is not right.

So what does happen if they have your warranty tools and what not ? How does an individual recoup their tools ? Will Snap on even do anything about it ?

WOW wafrederick I've heard you bash Snap on in most of your posts but this nonsense about a dealer getting drunk and smashing a matco box takes the cake. do you seriously sit around and look for new ways to slander snap on?

Have you EVER had an original thought in your life or is everything you know something that you were told??? Do you realize the perceptions that people have of you after reading these rants of yours?

The one problem I see with this model is that there are a lot of industrial houses that sell Armstrong or Proto that already do this.

If I need something tomorrow via McMaster-Carr, I can have it by 12pm for like $5 shipping and get it same day if I order in morning or tonight via the website.

Now this is the same Snap on guy who you said was a company employee becasue no one wanted the route yet your father "threw him out" (yay finally who know who this dealer is we heard so much about over his last 700 posts) 12 years ago?... give it up already, all your bad snapon stories come second/third handed and its all you ever really say. thats as bad as the people who constantly bash HF and ***** about COO its never going to change anyones opinions except to lower maturity level of the poster...

btw wafrederick, i hope i get you in the SS so i can have a "I Love Snap On" billboard put up across the street from your daddys shop

Three weeks or more is too long to go off the grid. I would write a letter and post a review if necessary to get the attention of Snap On so that they have to take care of you.
