My son bought his first house 2 years ago after renting for a year. He had moved to Tennessee from home in Ohio after graduating from college to take his first job. He's been working on his new shop for about a year now with a small amount of help from me when we're down visiting. He wanted me to post some pictures of his work so far to see what you guys think. He built the benches himself with limited experience working with wood. I've told him about GJ, so there's a good chance he'll be on here in the future.

It looks to me like he's off to a good start, coljar!

Thanks for posting the photos and let him know he's welcome here anytime.

He'll soon wish it was bigger!

He already wishes it was bigger, but it's a small 2 bedroom house and there's a one stall garage for his car in the next room. The laundry area is in the room behind the wall with the tv in the picture. We are headed to the Rolex later on in the month, so when I get down there, and we have time before we head to Florida, we might get the door installed between the shop and the garage he's wanted that will keep the shop area warmer.

Thanks Dad for posting the pictures, I'm looking forward to being a part of the GJ! Thanks everyone for the comments on my shop. It's really been a work in progress and is now somewhat functional. All comments/ criticism/ and suggestions are appreciated!

Sometime before spring when my wife and I are down for a visit, my son and I will be putting a line of receptacles in conduit above the work bench on the left. I like to keep the receptacles high enough to keep them from hiding behind items setting on the back of the bench.

I bet he enjoys your visits coljar. My dad lives about 2 miles away from me and we hang out at least two to three nights a week in either my garage or his. It's quality time, for sure.

I envy you coal man. I live about 3 blocks from my parents house, but my dad's been gone for 26 years. I wish my son lived closer than 5 hrs. away and my daughter closer than 3 hrs., but they have their own lives to live, I suppose. I miss them and the time with them goes so fast. Here's a picture of my son's house. The shop area is to the left of the garage door. I know, not a very good picture.

He has a big screen TV, a ceiling fan, a gun safe and a workbench, what more could you want in your first house garage.

EP, very nice, clean, efficient small space.

coljar, my parents moved about 4 hours away a couple of years ago, and whenever we get out to visit I try to have at least a little time with my dad in his shop. There's still lots he has to teach me, and now, surprisingly, I can teach him a few things too!

Yes I'm single... when I'm in a relationship the workshop suffers and is not as tidy as pictured. I've found that I can't get anything done in my workshop if a woman has anything to do with it!
