Bought these this week 6 steel boxes with 18 drawers each. each unit is 11" tall and deep and about 32" wide... So 108 storage drawers with dividers. Deciding if I should paint them. Funny how they seam to work the same with or without paint. LOL. Paid 50 bucks for each box.

Paint 'em Olive drab. (Walmart has it in the flat Camo paint...) I did one drawer like that (then discovered it wasn't QUITE a fit) for one I'm planing on stripping and repainting. Plus OD works as "period correct" and is durable (easily touched up too if you do scrape it.)

Great find. I can never find these on the cheap like you did so I bought some from Durham. It is nice to be organized.

Great find. With so many of us looking for something similar, you would think there would be a lot more of them tucked away in garages and turning up at garage sales and swap meets. Did our parents just have fewer things to store or did they all use baby food jars like my dad?

This, and my dad used peanut butter jars mostly...

Leave 'em as they are. I have the same ones in my shop. I don't know what that color is called, but leave it be. The dark green is cool.

I have two of those units that I picked up at a going out of business sale, filled with socket-head metric cap screws.
I sold the contents for 10x what I paid for the drawer units.
The units fit perfectly in 36" metal shelves, too!

We scored a couple sets a few weeks back also. Gonna leave them the color they are. Besides they would be a pita to paint properly...

If I had a specific color scheme going in my garage or if they're rusty, I would spend the time to paint them (but that's just me). If not, then they look fine as is.

Great find, BTW.

Painting them might look great but that's alot of sanding. Sounds like a winter project.

Seams like a ton of sanding. I was thinking if I used my sandblasting cabinet with glass bead or fine sand in it with a lower pressure on the drawers it might work. I like the color and would just repaint to get back to the origional color. The drawers have old tape and crud on them I would like to clean them up. We'll see if there is time this winter. It not like I said they work either way.

I see tons of cool units like that at our local antique mall. For some reason every single one of them has a not for sale sign on them. They are just being used to display the stuff that is for sale. Jerks
