For years, well over 15 years at the time of this posting, I have made various types of content for "the internet" And throughout all this time I have always made this content using what I had laying around and where ever I had space to do it.
Over time I decided I wanted to build out some things to help make this easier. Mostly for making my hobby videos for my Youtube channel.
The JunkMan's Adventures
Here is also a link to ALOT more pictures than I can easily put here with post limitations. I wanted to share these more as an inspiration. I know probably most people here won't "get it" and probably think it is a waste of time. I don't see it that way, I get a great deal of satisfactions out of the process just as the finished product.
As with anything garage related this is always a WIP (work in progress)
Lets start towards the beginning, not the exact beaning as that was when I was about 12 years old with an 8mm camera and a folding card table. This is when I got my first "digital" camera. Shot on MiniDV magnetic tape. This would be in the late 90's. So long before I would even know I could share something like this with the world.
Shown here, just shooting some "work" being done and in a light THO style instructional video. As you can see the set is just "the shop" and terrible lighting and sound control.
Moving ahead a bit. I moved some of this "talking" style video into a corner of the garage. Much more insulated for sound and a bit better light control. Plastic table cloths work to cover up the junk for a neutral background, but its quite un-inspired.
Then I did a bit of a garage revamp. Painting, building some storage, a permanent workbench area and stuff like that. Then I just started shooting videos using my "stuff" in the background, which was better and brighter.
Fast forward a bit and since I started sharing other aspects of my hobbies sometimes the garage and the "stuff" seemed not as appropriate and IMO a little distracting. This is when I decided to attempt to build a backdrop that could be a bit modular and that I could "dress" for various things.
I decided on a basic brick wall that I could turn into a basement or in some cases be an exterior wall with some fake turf or plants eventually.
I didn't get an pictures of the actual beginning, but it it is a pretty simple 2x4 frame that is still pretty light weight and is just screwed in a few places.
I made up some movable water and sewer pipes out of some left over PVC parts I had from some other project. Painted and gave them a bit of a weathering treatment. I can set these in different places to simulate different setups, and hide the seams from the panels better.
With the left over part of the brick embossed panel I made a modular wall that can be put on either side for flexibility.
I decided to make a paneled frame to cover up my shelf so framing the shot could be done at different angles. I also put together some left over vinyl plank flooring to serve as a movable floor. I have carpet remnants too.
Here is what it looks like with the modular wall on the other side.
Here is an example of it framed for a shot when working on something that I want to film process.
