My Surgical Lights For Task Lighting

Found these brand new military surgical lights on E Bay. They operate on 24v dc. Bought a power supply and got them installed today. They are really well made; manufactured in in 1978. Came in a giant foam lined army green canvas bag with all of the manuals and spec's. They even come with a spare bulb. They have a special glass housing around the bulb which filters out the infrared so they produce very little heat. A fun project and cool lights for those under hood jobs where other lights end up in the way.

Nice lights... although, after seeing your garage a few different times, do you actuall need all of those fans?
In my shop I have a 36" fan in the eave venting heat out (my shop isn't insulated though-and the fan has fixed louvers).. Why not do something similar? I'm sure it can be quite breezy in yours though... I'm just curious, that's all..

I searched "surgical light". Went through a bunch of related stuff untill I came accross these. The guy had 5 available Buy Now for $75.00. When I saw brand new and military, I knew it was worth it... As for bulbs, I doubt if they are available after they go out. However, they are a standard medium base 150W bulb, so I can just use any style AC bulb in them and convert to AC.
All of those fans have been superseded by my one 10" "Big *** Fan" brand cieling fan in the center of the shop. I just never got rid of the other useless (especially the large black noise makers) fans.

Hmmm - maybe that explains why there is one that looks like your ********* one sitting out in the weather next to a house around the corner. I kept thinking "why would you set an expensive fan out unprotected?" I guess - maybe it isn't worth having.

Let me be the first to say that you ****.

I've been looking for something heavy duty and mounted on an arm just like that to pull under my lift when I'm working there.

Dragging a task light in and out and then standing in my own shadow until I trip over it and break the bulb is getting tiresome.

Even $80 is a bit steep but still cheaper than the $150 I saw when I looked.

Yeah. He had some trouble getting mine to me at first. He had to re-pack and re-send both lights. I think that may have cut into his profit so he raised the price...

Not true. Very few surgeons use headlamps. They can be uncomfortable but ENT and neurosurgeons use them frequently, oh and TV surgeons use them all the time 'cause they look cool. They are helpful for looking in deep holes (noses). These type of lights (the AC version ceiling mounted) are present in most surgeons' offices for minor procedures. There are much brighter focused lights in the hospital OR.

Just keep in mind that these were made in 1978. They are really heavy compared to todays versions. I know they can not compare in brightness, but the price as compared to modern surg lights, they were a steal...
