Bronconut, thanks! as for the 1/12 pitch, I needed to have a 13' clearance 15' out on the lean-to for my camper to fit under the extended main roof line. Any steeper pitch and I would have had to go higher than 16' walls. Also here in this area most of these buildings are a 1/12 pitch. No snow loads considerations.

All my roofs are tied together to catch rain water. This is my only source of water for the house.

I have not posted too many pictures lately so figured I would updated the build. I got a great deal on 22 light fixtures for the garage. Going to go with 106watt CFL. Also hung 3 ceiling fans and finished all the wiring. Then the sheet rock. 50 sheets up to the 12' line all the way around. Still have a bit to do on the office and spare room but have the air condition installed and should have the doors hung this week. Hopefully get the tape and mud up and paint next week.

Thanks for the comments guys! Its been a long run but it is slowly coming to. I think green is in this year ! My green is wasabi green and some of the yellow in the garage is Shiner Bock yellow (Texas Beer Maker).

And for my friends down under (by the way I was born outside Sydney in Blacktown) I am going to name my garage the "Outback" . My daughter should have the sign painted on the corrugated metal soon! I always liked that name. I have named several of my boats that and now the garage. Seems my wife always has to tell people im "Outback" when they ask where I am.

erockz - when I finish it ill have you over, thx.

AFSilverado - I wish I could pull threw but I can't, I have to pull up and actually drive my truck into garage in the house and then back the trailer up and around to the lean-to. I did not want to take-out any more oak trees than I needed. The trailer is 40' so it takes some room.

Very cool set up! There are a few nice private garages in the Central Texas area. I get the opportunity to work in some of them through my Automotive Concierge hobby. We will have to meet in person sometime.

Are those fans doing much at ground level with them mounted that high up? I have the same fans mounted at 10' high and unless you're directly under one of them on high speed, the air movement really isn't that noticable. I would think yours would need longer downrods to feel them at ground level.

Maybe they are more noticable at higher humidities. We consider 30% humidity to be sticky here.

csp, Not had them turned on yet. Power is run but I am finishing the sheetrock before we put the switches on for the fans. I got them for $10 each so I figured I would try them. They were in a dance studio that had about a 12' ceiling and they seemed happy with them. They were just changing out the decor and wanted a different fan. By the way I bought those lights from the dance studio also, $10 each. Those lights are listed at $220 each in the catalog.

I am looking at those fans to mostly help heating during the winter. During the summer I open doors on all 3 sides of the garage and get a nice cross flow of air. I'll post when I do get the fans running and report back. Thanks for the interest.

Not too much to update but the sheetrock is coming along. I need two more sheets to finish up. I started to tape and mud the walls. It is going pretty good and is smooth. I’m real happy with the taping. I saw on a YouTube video how a guy was wetting the tape prior to laying it into the mud. I have done this and none of it is bubbling up as in some of my previous tape/mud experience. Also they say to go big. I am using a 10” blade to do all my finish. I will be doing three layers of mud to feather things out. Don’t plan on much sanding. Also I am adding ½ pint of water to each box of the pre-mix mud. It really helps it to spread and is not cracking. The temp in the garage has been in the 100* so it is drying quick. In the pictures you can see the PVC pipe in the wall. This is along the back and North wall for my dust collection. The dust collector will be located under the stairs. Can’t wait to get the walls done so I can get the lights/fans and outlets all hooked up. Hope to get the second and third coats off mud on by next week. Have a great 4th.

Nighttrain: Great build, love the look of the buliding within the building...clever way to make good use of your space. How do you like those lights? I'm still shopping for lighting.

PS thanks for your service.

Flybe free, Thanks, as for the lights I hope to have the CFL's installed soon. I'll let you know how they work. 22 lights with 106v CFL should light things up. I am now done with sheetrock and paint and will be installing the switchs.

mws 444, glad to get you in trouble with the wife!

I have finished painting the walls today. Three weeks of taping, mudding and sanding is now a horrible memory. It really came out nice. Ill take some pictures in the morning and post. After two years of a never ending dark tunnel I think I can see the light at the end. I have never painted in such heat. The paint was drying as fast as I could get it on. Went with a 12" roller and don't think i'll ever use a 9" one again.

Looking at some of the single or two car garages on here and seeing guys do a complete build in a months time makes me at times wish I had a smaller garage, wait what am I saying? must be the heat and paint fumes..

I love it.

Real big fan of the RV shelter, and a big enough door to pull the RV right into the shop. The covered porch is also very nice.

Keep up the good work!

I finished up the dry wall and got the primer up and paint. The paint was drying as fast as I could get it on. Got a great deal on some cabinets. They are from a computer lab at UT. Had the electrical all hooked up but the 220v. The ceiling fans work great. Still waiting on a bid from a local electric dealer for my cfl for the 22 overhead lights. I made the big mistake by removing the doors to install the cabinets. Figured it would be easier to lift them up which it was. Now only about 1 in 5 fits back nice. I plan on putting all the doors back in place but will have to re-drill some of the hinges.

Awesome place nighttrain! I wondered though...I have the Mueller bldg 1:12 pitch in 30 x 40 . High ceilings. I dont see any ridge vent in Your shop. Did You install any?. I did not and the heat, even running a swamper all day, is killing Me.I hate to cut hole/holes in My roof, but i guess i am going to. I dont want to open my doors becuse of flies, creepy neighbors, etc. Also, its 104 F out there right now......:(

Figure I better get some updated pictures. I finally got my lights bulbs. 105v CFL's 22 in all installed. Very happy with the color of light. I have 8 spot lights with a lower lumen light pointing at the walls which are more for mood lighting. These lights have their own little fan in them to help keep them cool while they are inverted.

Here are the spot lights:

Also I have finished up the dust collector install. This dust collector has been in storage 9 years. I found a cartridge style top filter for it which I will pick up this week. I have one 3" branch running behind the sheetrock 40' to 5 blast gates and to a floor sweep. The floor sweep is awesome. Also have the 4" line running towards the front to the table saw, planner and jointer. All on different blast gates.

Its getting there. I have started the cedar trim on the 12' level all the way around and should be done this week. Next is the workbench/cabinets along the 20' of back right wall and along about 40' of the left wall.

Wow, gorgeous build Nighttrain.

I remember seeing pictures a while back, but it just keeps getting better and better.

I'm a little envious of that built in dust collection system in your woodshop! Nice touch!

In hindsight, I still probably would have goofed it up if I had done the same thing because the position of the machines would be so much different than I could have imagined back then.

Very nice. I have no idea why this thread is a 4/5 stars:confused:

5 from me all the way, baby!

I haven't been here in quite a while but then it's been a while since it's been up front. Your building-in-a-building still blows me away. Those lights are awesome:thumbup:. I think I missed the cabinets too. Nice score.

Thanks guys! It been real slow, I have been spending too much time on here watching you guys getting your garages built, that and 50 hours of overtime in the last pay period. Had to pay for those CFL's somehow.

Hope to start on the cabinets soon then the floor. Still not real sure what were going to do with that, maybe Epoxy-coat will have another give away for 2000sf .

Those lights look great. You will be happy with that much illumination as you work in there.

That office area looks Awesome . I love seeing creative ideas like that built into a garage instead of the standard paint-on-drywall.

Don't apologize for surfing GJ. That is how we improve on our own designs by pilfering from others who have blazed the trail before us. Congrats on you great build!

Thanks wingnut. It will be complete when you see me roll in a 21 window and a karmann ghia convertible one day! Those hopefully will be my first two projects.

Nighttrain...looking good...like the floor sweep idea. If I put in a dust collection system I will have to remeber that. I should post up a picture this weekend of the stain so you can see how that looks...price is right for stain vs. epoxy.

Thanks guys. Have to love the Hill Country now that we had some rain. Saw a 8 point in the yard this morning.

Shaun, I would like to see those pictures when you post them. Been keeping an eye on your build. I thought about a light tan color stain then coat with sealer. Hey it's only the kids college $$$ i'm using!

My grandmother has lived in Luckenbach since the 60's. The deer get soo
crazy on her place, they come up in the yard and eat the hell out of her
garden, and drive the dog nuts.. :) Love it there...
