I am a new member to the forum and wanted to share my recently acquired tools. I have had a few screwdrivers and a really cheap ratchet/socket set for a few years now. The last time I changed my car's oil I realized that my tools needed to be replaced, most of the sockets had been worn out. It was time for an upgrade.

I read many of the posts on this and other forums to get an idea of what I should get. I had no idea there were so many great brands, I was only familiar with the stuff sold at Sears and HF, not the greatest quality. After much thought and advice I got what I consider to be a good mix of quality tools. The vast majority of my tools are made in Germany. I am not too crazy about the highly polished chrome tools, so just about all of the U.S. and China made tools were out. Plus I have never had problems with any product that said "Made in Germany" What I got is certainly not cheap, but I think they will last me for a long time. I do like ratchets so I got a few from different manufacturers.

Nice collection you have there...Not to mention a hell of a step up from HF and Sears although the Knipex can be bought re-branded from there....

Just hang around a while, it's hard to cure the addiction.... It usually just gets worse..

I have a similar addiction, i like having the same tools in different brands...


I now go to therapy, but my therapist is also an sk tools dealer.

I agree Wera makes very innovative tools and at reasonable prices. I am saving to get a good quality torque wrench, not too expensive though. Any suggestions? I like the Elora torque wrenches and of course Stahlwille, but they are expensive.

I am not too crazy about chrome tools so just about all of the U.S. and China made tools were out.

Nice stuff! But... you DO know most of what you bought is chrome plated, right?

German tools You stepped right up to the best, I have some Hazet stuff, IF I could afford a boat load of it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a ton of it.

How many teeth on the Shahlwille ratchets? I gather the green button is to release the socket? I like that feature, (like the standard Craftsman ratchets).

The Stahlwille 1/2 has 36 teeth, the 3/8" has 30, and the 1/4" has 22 teeth. One of the reasons why I also have the Facom's which are all fine tooth ratchets.

I have a bunch of FACOMs and find them to be the smoothest of all my ratchets, smoother than the Snap On 100 tooth roto heads. Those Stahlwille wrenches feel very nice in the hand.
