Local (San Diego area) thrift store has been killing it on tools. They purchased a hardware store and have been moving through the inventory. 99.9% of it is tiawanese junk (like off-brand harbor freight) but there is some gold

Last week I scored a brand new full SAE set of wright wrenches, most of a metric set and some ratcheting wrenches for $130

Today was a really nice tap haul; mostly 1" and above, all made in USA, some new; Priced at $3 a pop. Plus he threw in a nice metal storage box for free. Walked out of there $75 lighter with some mammoth taps (2.25 on the biggest).

Been a good few weeks; wanted to share.

Lucky you. My local thrift stores are filled with tons of cloths, some books, a few DVDs and CDs, and pretty much nothing else. My local pawn shops want close to, or over, retail prices for heavily used stuff. Wish my town didn't **** so much on the used item market.

Nice haul, My local thrift stores are loaded with junk, If you have the time, you can search through the Asian imports, and assorted trash, and maybe find something decent

Judging that one tap is almost as big as the spray paint can, do you have anything with hardware that big?

Almost, I do a lot of hobby odd-ball restoration type stuff. I just finished restoring an old Toledo scale. As luck would have it, the last item I was painting got dropped and shattered. It had a ~2" NPT thread. Fortunately not load bearing, so I was able to epoxy and glass back the missing pieces. Had I needed to re-cut the threads, $60 for a new tap would have hurt.

I figure $3 is a pretty safe price point. If it sits in my tool box for a few years gathering dust that is fine. I've got some buddies that do more serious work, so these may get cleaned up and loaned out too.
