My tool street find

There I was driving down the road with my nephew when I spot what looks like a socket wrench laying in the lane.

I pull over and send him to grab it. Even with all the snow and road salt that was down it hadn't started to rust yet.

I have a new to me 6-inch 3/8 extenstion bar and a 9/16 socket.

The only marks on the socket is a small stamped "Japan", the 9/16 marking, and the small stamped numbers "263".

The extenstion bar only has the same small "Japan".

What did I win?

Daily toolscrounger award :D

There was a thread a little while ago about tools found in the road. Makes interesting reading if you find it...

I missed that thread. I will search for it.

Google didn't tell what what an unmarked Japan '263' socket was.

I think there's a law somewhere where you can only make your nephew fetch tools out of the road in inclement weather if they are at least Craftsman. For imported fair, you need to buy him a happy meal for him making the effort.

I found a #0 Philips yellow hard handle look alike in the road a couple days ago. I didn't have any help retrieving it though. Busy street too!!

I saw a guys ball mount bar and ball on the left side of the interstate in Denver the other day. I pulled over waited about 5-10 minutes and decided the $30 part that I already have 4 of wasn't worth a mad dash across 5 lanes of 75+MPH traffic.

Free tools are always my favorite no matter what the maker. Reminds me of my 3 favorite beers; Cold beer, free beer, and cold free beer!

I stopped at the micro brewery to celebrate the find. He is underage so after my beer we split donut fried oreos with ice cream.

Prepare to be reamed by the forum police for stealing someone else`s tools.

I could care less, you did what anyone else would`ve done....but just wait patiently, the police will show...they always do.

Saturday week we were coming east on I-90 around milepost 50 with a load of machine tools and engine cores. I was riding shotgun and recognized just as we passed it a small red tool box sitting on the shoulder. With the load we had, you don't dynamite the brakes, so by the time I told the driver, he checks his mirrors, we're a half-mile gone. I still wonder if the box was any good and what was in it.

thnx, jack vines

As co-pilot, it is your job to watch the side of the road for goodies. You should have seen the box at least a 1/4 mile ahead. The fact that you guys passed it is no excuse. It is your job to persuade the driver to go back. That's why you have flashers and reverse. Slap on a helmet and get in the game. :spit:
