I wonder if I paint hard board gray if that would give me the gray color with benefits of the hardboard? Just getting ideas.... Work bench wall the bottom tool chests are being paint hammertone silver/gray with red drawers. Drill press cart thinking all red with red drawers. Homemade roll cart might do legs silver/ gray and red or all hardtone silver or all red. My big metal roll table havnt decided yet. Its my welding table so anything easy to repaint after welding. The HF box wall everything metal painted rustoleum cherry red to match boxes.

Do you have any problem with the boxes moving when you don't want them to since the casters are still on?

I plan on doing the same thing, but I felt I would need to removes the caters and build a frame for them to sit on so they wouldn't "wiggle" on me.

The top is screwed into the studs of the back wall so top doesn't move. The top just rest on raised part of box. i have 1 2x4 running length of front and where each of raised part I have one total of 3 and back 2 x4 keeps top from warping and place to attach to wall. if you can see gap from top to vertical studs theres a gap. I can raise top screw to alittle higher up and pull boxes out while keeping that top in place hovering. I do work on on it but nothing heavy duty. That's not really cause I can't try to keep the area for clean projects. I think only thing you accomplishing taking casters off is a big height difference in bench and more of a built in look. I choose to keep them on cause it would be real PIA to move if needed. Good luck on your idea.
