My house doesn't have a garage or much space for one, if i still want some yard for my kids to play in.

So I went in search of a garage for my stuff, and found this building a mere 200 steps from my house on the same street.

It was a VW Repair shop at one time.

The guy I purchased it from tore up the concrete entry ramp and framed in the garage door opening and put house doors in (which I get to pay to switch back :( ). His plans were to open an arcade/poolhall, so he did at least add some new wiring and outlets every few feet.

I plan to put on a pitched roof.

It's not pretty, but it's a nice big workshop. 50x55

This should be an awesome project. Please continue to post pictures as you progress. Where are you located?

Cheers!

The first project should be to restore at least one of the VW's on the roof (I'm guessing that you showed an old pic and they probably aren't there anymore?), they add real 'character' to the building! Looks like you should have plenty of room for many weekends of fun building up your new space!

How fun.. I used to restore VW's and seeing that building and the vehicles on top are so cool. Has a vintage feel to it. Used to see shops with vehicles on them way back in the 60's as a cool way to advertise. I hope you're going to keep that look.

One excellent post with cool pics and he is gone. Must be busy starting on improvements or building stuff. Welcome to the forum.

No, not busy making improvements on my building yet. hahaha I've been busy helping a friend make improvements on his house this past week.

A little brackground info with my shop and I.

I was living in California, and have a house in Maine.
I was laid off from my job, and moved to Maine, and purchased the shop.
Well then as luck or disbelief would have it, I get recalled and move back to Cali. Sorta (all my tools and furniture are left behind in Maine).

I'm in the process of trying to get a transfer back to the east coast.
So the shop improvements will be on hold awhile.

The VW's are no longer on the roof, But there are a few in the basement that came with the building.

The Building used to have an elevator, that went from the basement to the roof, which has been removed. But the elevator shaft is still there, but walled in.

There is a link a current photo of the building, under the last photo.
The former owner added vinyl siding and some new windows. I only wish he hadn't torn up the entry ramp. :(

So that's my story and I'm stickin to it. :)

Good to hear you are still working. I hit the link and think the building looks better in the pics in the thread but I thought the seventies rocked. I was just a kid at the time so I didn't know any better.
